Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess: A Tropical Lip Look for Winter

February 19th, 2010 by Karen 28 Comments

I think the sky was mocking me when I took ye olde Tabby cat out for his morning promenade around the circle…

Among other things, Friday’s also garbage day!

Those ominous clouds make everything creepy. Like those two garbage cans? Hella creepy. Even my favorite tree looks a little Sleepy Hollow.

While Tabs nibbled on grass, which I guess is his idea of salad al fresco (only the freshest, dewy green shoots will do), I spotted this punchy pink flower. It would’ve been the brightest thing out there if it hadn’t been for my lipgloss. 🙂

Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Lip Gloss in Wild Orchid

I can’t wait for summer, ladies, and Estee Lauder’s shimmery fuchsia Exotic Lip Gloss in Wild Orchid ($18; available now at Nordstrom) is only making things worse. I think it’s fueling my winter denial. I mean, how can it still be winter with Wild Orchid on my lips??

9 Things: Beautiful Things I Saw Today (Makeup and Non-Makeup Related)

February 18th, 2010 by Karen 33 Comments

Today I left Tabs in charge of the homestead while I met a friend in SF for lunch. Along my way I bumped into a bunch of beautiful things like…

1. Daffodils

These smiling beauties were right outside of a Nordie’s (I stopped by the MAC counter), all in full bloom. 🙂

2. Chanel Eau Tendre Perfume

While at Nordie’s, I couldn’t resist spraying the new Chanel Eau Tendre ($65) on my wrists. It’s the third version of their Chance perfume (muskier and less citrusy than the previous two) and reminds me of one of my favorite fragrances of 2009, Estee Lauder’s Pure White Linen Pink Coral.

3. Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess is back

Swatches of ye olde bronze bombshell: 1. Liquid Eyeshadow in Aqua Flash, 2. Liquid Eyeshadow in Molten Brown, 3. Liquid Eyeshadow in Sand Shimmer, 4. Liquid Eyeshadow in Ultra Violet, 5. Lipstick in Cherry Ice, 6. Lipstick in Wild Plum, 7. Exotic Lip gloss in Wild Coral, 8. Exotic Lip Gloss in Wild Orchid, 9. Exotic Bronzing Blush, 10. Shimmer Bronzer, 11. Bronzer Duo, 12. Bronzing Gel, and 13. Liquid Bronzer

The lovely EL makeup artist who helped me at Nordie’s (Hi, Stephanie!) said Bronze Goddess would probably sell out soon, and it’s only been out a week! Matter of fact, I’d snagged the LAST Liquid Eyeshadow in Aqua Flash ($17.50; the bright, shimmery teal) and Exotic Lip Gloss in Wild Orchid ($18; the shimmery fuchsia with hints of purplish blue). If you’re at all interested in this year’s Bronze Goddess collection, you better get on that, STAT!

The Bronze Goddess Is Back: Estee Lauder Summer 2010

February 16th, 2010 by Karen 76 Comments

(NOTE: I think the blue item is Liquid Eyeshadow in Aqua Flash)

Officially, my summer lust is ON like Donkey Kong. I *wish* we could just hop on a plane to someplace warm today, ladies. I need tropical mischief, and there are few things more fun than a girls-only vacay, ya know?

OOH! I could bring along ALL OF MY PICTURES OF TABS (every group needs a designated crazy cat lady) and Estee Lauder’s summery Bronze Goddess 2010 collection. Don’t worry if you forget your blush — we’ll just share mine.

I thought the 2008 and 2009 Bronze Goddess releases were phenomenal; hopefully this year’s is too.

The Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Creme Lip Colors Are Movin’ On Up!

February 12th, 2010 by Karen 27 Comments

Hold on to your pearls and tweed jackets, ladies, because Chanel did us a solid. They bumped up the release date of their (soon to be our) new Rouge Coco lipsticks from March to February 25.

I was cruising the Nordstrom beauty department yesterday when a Chanel artist handed me a card with the new date. 🙂

The counter had a few samples of the new line’s 30 hydrating lipsticks, so, of course, I had to stick around and play…

A Lip Look with Bobbi Brown Cabana Corals

February 11th, 2010 by Karen 72 Comments

Come on, ride the [coral] train… hey, ride it (WOO, WOO)! Spring 2010 has been an overnight trip on the Coral Express, ladies. Headed where? The Land of Coral, of course.

I guess what I’m trying to say is we’ve been seeing A LOT of coral lately. 🙂

Today the lippies in the Bobbi Brown Cabana Corals collection fueled the fire.

Because I’m still working my way through a neutral lip phase, I wanted something that wasn’t too va-va-va voom, so I layered Coral Reef Metallic Lip Color (a shimmery pinkish coral, $22) beneath Coral Sand Shimmer Lip Gloss (a golden peach, $20) and really like how it turned out.

I also tried them on their own…

Stila Goes for the Glitter with Their Family of Jewels

February 9th, 2010 by Karen 42 Comments

The plum, black, rose and bronze of Stila’s new Jewel Eye Shadow Palette ($32) and Lip Glaze Trio ($32) gave me a serious talking to this week.

They said, “Karen, please give us a chance. I know our shades seem a little heavy for a spring release, but we sparkle like jewels in the light! I promise we’re more airy and whimsical than we seem.”

Hourglass Thinks It’s Time for Prodigy Lipgloss

February 5th, 2010 by Karen 30 Comments

“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the ________________.”

There’s a new kid in town, and she’s a regular child prodigy — an Hourglass Prodigy, to be exact.

Prodigy, a new line of pocket-friendly lip glosses from luxury brand Hourglass, slides into Sephora stores later this month (Feb. 18), and small clutches everywhere are going wild! 🙂

But seriously, the six slick glosses cost $26 apiece, so they aren’t as cheap as their diminutive size might lead one to believe.

Still, their flat tubes seem kinda cool, don’t they? They’re designed to fit snugly into tight spaces like pockets or a tiny clutch.

I love it when companies push (or in this case squish) the envelope when it comes to design.

The top snaps off (took me a minute to figure it out) to reveal the angled applicator tip, and squeezing the body of the tube dispenses the product.

I just wish I could get Hourglass to tweak one thing…
