Tater the Tabby

August 6th, 2014 by Karen 14 Comments

Tater the Tabby (2)

I made a new friend today! His name is Tater, he’s a tabby, and he lives about three houses down on my street.

We struck up a conversation on my walk. I approached him slowly and said “Well met, tabby!” in my high-pitched cat lady voice (the one normally reserved for Tabs), and he immediately flopped over and showed me his tum (the universal cat greeting).

I didn’t have any cat treats with me, but I’ll bring some along next time. Hopefully with some snack bribery, I’ll be able to seal the deal and secure his feline friendship.

He kind of looks like Tabs, doesn’t he? If Tabs was wearing Spanx?

I have a thing for tabby boys with green eyes. 😉

Elegant With an Edge: The Kristin Perry Bear Claw Ear Cuff

August 6th, 2014 by Karen 11 Comments

Kristin Perry Bear Claw Ear Cuff (1)

Kristin Perry Bear Claw Ear Cuff (2)

For gals who like their earrings with a Thunderdome/Atlantean edge, there’s the Kristin Perry Bear Claw Ear Cuff ($28).

This is kind of different and cool… I’ve never seen anything quite like it before. It’s sold as a single piece, so not as a pair, and worn on your left ear.

You kind of just pop it into your piercing (it’s for pierced ears), and the cuff looks like it’s traveling up the side of your ear.

It’s about an inch long, 14K gold plated with glass crystals scattered throughout.

I dunno… It’s got like a dystopian/comic book avenging angel vibe that I like (very tough girl at a dinner party).

If you’re so inclined, you can find the Bear Claw Ear Cuff online now for $28.

Next Stop, Breakfast at Tiffany’s: The Audrey Necklace by Kristin Perry

August 4th, 2014 by Karen 11 Comments

Kristin Perry The Audrey Necklace

Kristin Perry The Audrey Necklace

You know Tabs will be serving up some major Holly Golightly fierceness when he wears his new Kristin Perry The Audrey Necklace ($58, available now at kristinperry.com) to Petco later this week…since he’s all about statement jewelry.

But seriously, I’m really looking forward to wearing this with the LBD I got from Kate Spade on sale a while back, holla!

Next project: the shoes.

THE SHOES!

Maybe something in hot pink?

I love that Kristin Perry does these bold statement necklaces that don’t cross the line into Mrs. Roper territory. They’re bold, but not gaudy, and they’re easy to dress up or down (I’ve worn this same necklace with a white tee and jeans).

If you haven’t heard of Kristin Perry, she’s a local designer out of LA. I’ve pretty much loved every one of her pieces I’ve seen. She’s kind of like Kate Spade with an edge.

New Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner: For Cat Eyes and Cannonballs at the Pool

August 1st, 2014 by Karen 10 Comments

Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner (1)

Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner (2)

Anyone else love mechanical pencils?

My favorites are the ones with the super long twist-up erasers (I have an old teal one that I’ve had for a zillion years), and I’m partial to .5mm lead.

.5mm lead is small.

Like REALLY small.

But it’s not much smaller than the tip on these new 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner by Hourglass ($45).

I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited to get between the roots of my lashes, LOL!

They come three to a pack, and you get from 17-20 uses each.

These were recently added to the permanent line for fall, and I’m taking them for a spin this weekend (cat eyes and cannonballs at the pool). I hope they’re just as waterproof and long-lasting as they claim.

New Hourglass 1.5MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner

  • The precision 1.5mm tip ensures effortless control, and allows for lining in between lashes.
  • The unique formula, poured into a slim mechanical component, has the malleability, intensity and staying power of a traditional gel. No pot, no brush, no clean-up required.
  • The waterproof, transfer-proof and long-lasting formula delivers extended wear.
  • The supple, moisturizing formula glides on smoothly and dries quickly.
  • Two clicks is all you need to line the eye. Each advanced mechanical pencil lasts for approximately 17 to 20 uses.
  • Only dispense product as needed – mechanical pencil does not retract.
  • Free of phthalates, sulfates, talc and gluten. No animal testing.
  • Ophthalmologist tested.

You can find them now at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Net-A-Porter.com, Space.NK, Sephora and online at hourglasscosmetics.com. Single liners are also available available at select retailers, including the Hourglass website, for $16.

Please Initial Here: The Kate Spade One in a Million Initial Pendant Necklace

July 31st, 2014 by Karen 5 Comments

Kate Spade One in a Million Initial Pendant Necklace

Kate Spade One in a Million Initial Pendant Necklace (1)

I ordered this Kate Spade One In a Million Initial Pendant Neckalce online during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale (just four days left!), and boo-hoo! — most of the letters are gone now.

I wanted to grab one more to give as a Christmas present and take advantage of the sale price of $37.90 (they’re usually $58).

I like the design — simple and elegant — and I think it goes well with other delicate pieces (or looks cute on its own).

One side of the circle pendant has an initial on it, and the other side says “ONE IN A MILLION”. The necklace is 12K-gold plated.

Only thing is, I just checked, and there are only four letters left online — B, D, T and U.

If your name doesn’t start with one of those letters, they might have more letters at your local Nordies store.

Get Me an Orange Soda, Stat! Or, theBalm Lip Gloss in Pop

July 30th, 2014 by Karen 10 Comments

theBalm Read My Lips Lip Gloss in Pop (1)

theBalm Read My Lips Lip Gloss in Pop (2)

Like Fanta, there’s something fizzy and bubbly and refreshing about POP!, this orange lip gloss from theBalm.

It’s called Read My Lips Lip Gloss in Pop ($15), and it makes lips look like they’ve been painted with a Popsicle, and then coated with a high-shine lacquer.

It’s not too late to try the orange lip trend, my friend. If you’ve been wanting to but haven’t, Pop is a sweet, and not full-on frightening orange, way to try the look.

Pop is moderately pigmented and also has a healthy dose of peach in it as well, so it’s not straight-up orange.

I’d say it’s actually less like orange soda, and more like an effervescent mimosa.

Mmm, mimosas…

*Cue birds chirping!* chirping

I think I may have literally heard a symphony of birds singing outside my window the first time I opened Rouge Bunny Rouge When Birds Are Singing Long-Lasting Eye Shadow in Rufous-Tailed Weaver ($25).

It’s like powder eyeshadow makeup LOVE in a pan.

I almost can’t describe it… One minute, I see a beautiful bronzy brown. Next minute, a gorgeous golden tan taupe and oh! — it’s also freakishly smooth.

You know those products that make you fall in love with makeup all over again?

Yeah, this is one of those for me.
