You Must Choose: Trapped in TV Land

April 30th, 2008 by Karen 47 Comments

Last night I slept a total of about 3.5 hours because of different things on my mind, but in that time I managed to have a few vivid dreams, including one where I was trapped in the 80’s sitcom The Golden Girls.

Perhaps the dream was a cry for help, but, honestly, I can’t think of another TV show in which I’d rather be trapped. I love that show!

Sure, the ladies of The Golden Girls are more than twice my age, but I can’t get enough of Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose’s hijinks. Plus, the show is set in Miami — hello, surfing. Let the hilarity ensue!

In the dream I moved into the house and became the fifth Golden Girl. Sophia taught me how to cook Sicilian food, and Rose asked if I could post a picture of her new hairdo on the blog. Yup, good times.

I hope I have a Sex and the City dream now, but I really can’t see myself living in New York because I’m a wuss when it comes to cold winters.

Speaking of TV dreams, could you imagine being stuck in The Hills? I can see myself hanging out with Lo and Whitney, but the show’s male characters are terribly sub-par. Could anyone have a meaningful conversation with Spencer or Justin Bobby, the ambassadors of lame?

If you could transport yourself into any show on TV, what would it be? YOU MUST CHOOSE!

Karen

Essie Summer 2008 Nail Polish Collection: Help!

April 28th, 2008 by Karen 46 Comments

essie-summer-2008

When I got home from work this afternoon, my inner crazy possessed me to inhale half a bag of Trader Joe’s Reduced Fat Cheese Crunchies. After washing off my neon-orange fingers and chewing three Tums (note to file: do not eat half a bag of cheese crunchies in one sitting), I pulled out my Essie Summer 2008 nail polish stash and painted each of the nails on my left hand (and the pointer finger on my right) different colors. This is what too many cheese crunchies can make a woman do.

Essie Summer 2008 contains six shades ($8 each), and I lurve them all.

  1. Guilty Pleasures — pink strawberry
  2. My Place or Yours — pink rose
  3. Escapades — shimmerless red coral
  4. Risky Business — red with tangerine shimmer
  5. Secret Stash — fuschia
  6. Movers & Shakers — bold hot pink

Which of these is your favorite? I can’t decide which one is mine. I need help!

The shade that gets the most votes will be the color I wear the rest of the week.

Aren’t you glad we’ve gotten Monday out of the way? I had a bad case of the Mondays this morning, but things started looking up in the afternoon.

Today Marin Was Like Hawaii

Shark’s Cove: awesome snorkeling spot on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii

Hi, ladies! It was just too nice outside for me to sit in front of the computer today. It seems like I spend more time at my computer desk than I spend anyplace else!

What have you been up to today?

I’m working on a couple projects for you guys that I hope to have ready to share soon. One has to do with MAC Cosmetics, and the other has to do with finding makeup bargains, which is something I hold near and dear to my heart!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

9 Things: My Makeup Lust List

April 24th, 2008 by Karen 52 Comments

‘Twas a slooow day for me today, so during a break I did one of the things I do best: cruise for makeup online! Here’s my current makeup lust list!

Makeup Lust List

1. The entire MAC Neo Sci Fi collection ($14-21)!!!

2. The entire Nars summer collection! ($22-$32) – Hot, hot and hot! I’ll have to “adopt” the Unconditional Love Duo Cream Eyeshadow and Supervixen Lipgloss, ASAP.

3. Hanae Mori Butterfly Eau Fraiche Fragrance ($65) – I’m dying to try this out. Sephora.com says it’s a fruity floral with notes of grapefruit, strawberry, black currant and jasmine, and although I haven’t sniffed it yet, my fragrance ESP tells me (hopes) it smells divine.

4. Guerlain Meteorites Powder Pearls in Pink Fresh ($51) – Ooh! I wish I had jewelry with pearls as big as these powder pearls.

5. Fresh Island Reverie Face Palette ($55) – Now, this is the palette I’d want to bring with me on a worldwide surf vacation. It includes three eyeshadows — Tiare (a sheer champagne), Plumeria (a sheer shell-pink) and Rum (rich coffee) — a blush (Island Reverie, a coral shade) and a bronzer (called Treasure Cove).

6. Best of Becca Palette ($65) – Why do we always want what we can’t have? This palette must be the shizz because it’s always out of stock! In it Becca stuffed two eyeshadows (a golden bronze and a rich bronze shimmer), a cream blush called Turkish rose, a caramel lip/cheek cream and a peachy pearl lipgloss.

7. MAC PowerPoint Eye Pencil in Tealo and Forever Green ($13.50) – Wee! I love green eye pencils. I can’t get enough of green eye pencils, and I want to try these because they’re supposedly waterproof, too. I hope they’re nice and blendable like the Technakohls. Both of the greens that I want are out of stock on the MAC Web site (boo), but the Nordstrom site has ’em in stock (yay).

You Must Choose: Eternal Crease Colors, Afterlife Preparation

April 20th, 2008 by Karen 70 Comments

mac-cosmetics-soft-brown-soba-sable

This is probably not a big surprise, but I was kind of a weird kid. Case in point: when I was eight, I had a mummy obsession. It was just a phase, but it lasted for months. Day after day I would come home from the library with armfuls of books about mummies, and I’d spend hours reading about burial preparations (removal of the brain with a hook through the nose was my favorite part), pyramid building and Egyptology. My mom would look at me strangely as I’d describe the books and pets I’d bring with me into the afterlife.

My childhood mummy phase eventually passed, but the other day, while watching Nova, The Mummy Who Would Be King, my mind wandered to — surprise, surprise — makeup.

Is there a cap on how much makeup one can bring with them into the afterlife? — ’cause Cleopatra must’ve taken a TON of black eyeliner with her!

As I pondered my ginormous eyeshadow collection, I wondered which crease colors I would want to be buried with in my (presumably fabulously decorated) tomb for all eternity. I’d hire only the best tomb-keepers, too, and they would hook me up with giant custom-made eyeshadow pans of MAC Soft Brown, Soba and Sable eyeshadow, my top three go-to crease colors of all time! If we’re talking eternal resting places, we really ought to be prepared.

Which crease colors would you bring if you could actually “take makeup with you”?

YOU MUST CHOOSE!

9 Things I’m Glad I Know

April 17th, 2008 by Karen 60 Comments

Your comments to last week’s 9 Things I Wish I Didn’t Know knocked me off my feet. They were thoughtful and touching, and many really struck a chord with me.

Now it’s time for 9 Things I’m Glad I Know. Maybe the two lists can complement each other, like pairs of shoes, bra cups, or yin and yang!

9 Things I’m Glad I Know

  1. How to tweeze my brows and wax my ‘stache. You’d be looking at the sasquatch of beauty bloggers if it weren’t for hair removal, LOL!
  2. How to read music. I no longer play *any* of the five instruments I once could (seriously, I was a one woman band! — piano, flute, piccolo, French horn and trumpet), but music is still and always will be a huge part of my life. What’s going to be instrument number six? Definitely the accordion. Fo’ reals. And El Hub is *not* happy about it.

Makeup and Driving: What Say You?

April 15th, 2008 by Karen 34 Comments

If you’ve been a reader of the blog for some time you’re probably aware of my not-so-secret obsession with Britney Spears!

Although TEAM BRITNEY had been scandal-free for a while, the poor girl gave the merciless paparazzi and the media fresh ammunition last Saturday after a minor fender bender on a busy Los Angeles freeway. Thankfully, no one was injured and no tickets were issued, but it looks like makeup may have been involved. It has been reported (which doesn’t mean that it’s true) that Brit was doing her makeup behind the wheel at the time the accident occurred.

True or not, it raises an interesting question: how do you feel about applying your makeup behind the wheel?

I’m incapable of multi-tasking behind the wheel, so I try not to do my makeup while I’m driving, but I admit I’ve done it before. I also know it’s not uncommon for women to use their rear views for quick touch-ups on the way to work.

Happy Tuesday, ya’ll! What have you got going on for today? Right now I’m busting into my Clinique gift with purchase loot from last week. I can’t wait to try out the cute palette.

Are you having a good day so far? I hope so.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
