Makeup and Driving: What Say You?

April 15th, 2008 by Karen 34 Comments

If you’ve been a reader of the blog for some time you’re probably aware of my not-so-secret obsession with Britney Spears!

Although TEAM BRITNEY had been scandal-free for a while, the poor girl gave the merciless paparazzi and the media fresh ammunition last Saturday after a minor fender bender on a busy Los Angeles freeway. Thankfully, no one was injured and no tickets were issued, but it looks like makeup may have been involved. It has been reported (which doesn’t mean that it’s true) that Brit was doing her makeup behind the wheel at the time the accident occurred.

True or not, it raises an interesting question: how do you feel about applying your makeup behind the wheel?

I’m incapable of multi-tasking behind the wheel, so I try not to do my makeup while I’m driving, but I admit I’ve done it before. I also know it’s not uncommon for women to use their rear views for quick touch-ups on the way to work.

Happy Tuesday, ya’ll! What have you got going on for today? Right now I’m busting into my Clinique gift with purchase loot from last week. I can’t wait to try out the cute palette.

Are you having a good day so far? I hope so.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve been known to apply foundation and blush at a stoplight or two, I’m not gonna lie!

But what really bugs my mom is when I apply mascara in the passenger seat of a moving car. She thinks I’m gonna poke my eye out. Strangely, the only time I’ve ever done that I was standing perfectly stationary at a mirror 🙂

I used to apply lipgloss at stop signs or red lights. When I was in SoCal, lots and lots of ladies drove, curled their lashes, and applied mascara in highway 405. And they drove very very fast!

    Hi Ping,

I hope she makes a comeback soon, too! I want her to get back into uber dance shape, as she’s an amazing dancer when she’s on top of her game. Have you ever seen her in concert before?

    Hi LaurenIvy,

That’s funny…now that I think about it I’ve applied mascara and eye liner in the car (as a passenger) and it’s kind of a miracle I’ve never poked my eye out. I hope your eye wasn’t hurt too badly when you poked it out in front of the mirror!

    Hi Dao,

Wow, that’s crazy! I’ve never lived in SoCal so I’ve yet to witness the phenomena on highway 405. Curling my lashes in the car would be a recipe for trubs…

Hope you are having a good day!

The only thing I’ve ever done is apply lipgloss. If I’m stuck at a long red light (or stuck at the train tracks- arrrrg!) I’ll touch up a bit more 🙂

Im pretty bad for putting on my lipstick/gloss at the wheel but thats really it!
I used to always apply a full face on the way to work when I worked in a city centre but that was really because I had to sit in absolute standstill traffic for so long that it felt like a good (and pretty safe!) use of my time!

I actually bought an amazing product on sunday which ive been meaning to share with the group! Its a line and open pore filler from Clarins which works amazingly! It is feather light and i cant feel a thing underneath my foundation but it fills my open pores perfectly! My friend on the clarins counter also gave me some samples to try and I am really really impressed! I have never tried Clarins before but I really liked everything she gave me! Im definately going to switch to the toner from my current chanel one when that runs out and i think im going to get one of the nighttime facial treatment oils too!

I put on lipstick or lipgloss, but only at stop signs and if there’s no one behind me! Otherwise, I wait ’til I’m parked!

    Oh Holly!

I’m so sad! When I ran into John Fussell this Saturday, I asked him about the spf 50 and he said it’s not coming to the states anytime soon! He said we still get the sun-worshipper demographic so Europe and Asia get spf 50 and we get a new line of bronzers! 🙁

Hope you’re doing well and having a good week! 🙂

    Hey Glosslizard,
oh no what a shame that you wont get the spf 50 🙁 but maybe if it does well over hear they will extend it to the u.s. market too! We are getting the new Bronzer line too, im really excited for it, they sound much better than the current bronzers with a really good oil absorber in them too!
Im also really excited for the aqua lumiere glosses in the summer they sound great!

Im hoping that when I go into work tomorrow we may have had a delivery of the new hydramax range and the spf 50! I cant wait to try them out!

I used to be pretty good at multi-tasking that I could put it on while driving. But for some time now, I haven’t been the fastest cookie in the jar so I definitely don’t do it unless I’m in the backseat taking a seat. But even then, then ride is still bumpy. But it’s only for putting on my lips if called for that day. Eye makeup stays in the bathroom for me.

Hey Karen! I hardly drive but I’m notorious for putting on makeup in the car. However I put on my foundation and Charged Water before the car. Lips, cheeks, and eyeliner all put on in the car. That way I don’t have to hear my mom or have to really listen to what my brother is saying…or listening to on the stereo! Tuesday’s are fab I catch up on The Hills and other brainless TV. Man is it gettin’ CRAZY!! Whew!

    Hi Tanya,

Yup, that’s what I’m guilty of. There’s one really long red light here in my town on my way to work and that’s where I’ve busted out the lipgloss before.

    Hi Holly,

Yah, I have a friend who loves the line and I agree – there are some really nice gems if you look closely. I will have to look for that pore stuff when I go to the mall next. I know the Clarins gals give good sized samples so woot, I can’t wait to try.

Hope you are doing okay these days!

Ahhh, you’re so good. I should be better about waiting to be parked.

Oh no! I am sad that the 50 isn’t coming here. But my wallet isn’t crying too hard, that’s for sure.

I am so guilty of driving and applying makeup. Although I don’t do it anymore. I used to because this was the time when I had classes starting at 8AM and I had to drop off my kids to my mom’s place early in the morning and that took an hour and then I had to drive back to school which took me another hour so I would have to wake up at 6AM and I didn’t have enough time to get anything done, so I would do my makeup in the car. Granted at the time, I was very low maintenance on my makeup.

What about texting while driving? That’s also a dangerous combo. I’ve actually seen people with their phone in one hand and the wheel in the other. It’s like OMG, get off your phone!! pay attention to the road and this was on the freeway too.

That’s why I hate talking on my phone when I’m driving. I can get distracted if I am deep in conversation. I try to keep it to the bare minimum.

    Hi Lynne,

Wow, that’s talent. I’ve never been able to put a full face on while driving. I tend to leave the eye makeup in the bathroom too, otherwise I just end up losing it in weird places.

Hope your Tuesday’s been a good one so far!

    Hi Tania,

I gotta give you props for being able to pull of eyeliner in the car! Yikes, I’m so not coordinated enough to rock that skill in a moving vehicle.

Regarding the Hills, have you noticed how Heidi flips her hair in every scene? How do you feel about her “making a ploy” for Audrina?

    Hi Jaclyn,

I can barely text standing still, LOL. I can’t even think about doing it while driving. I’m so one-track mind in the car it’s not even funny. If I have to be on the phone it’s always very brief, and if I have to do anything like merge or go on/off a ramp I tell people to hold on.

Gosh, you did a lot of driving when you went to school! What did you study?

OMG Karen! I think it’s totally sad that Heidi is now all buddy buddy with Audrina! Heidi is like a trainwreck- I feel bad but at the same time I can’t stop watching! Everytime I watch her I feel sad for her because she’s so incredibly insecure. I think Lauren and Whitney are growing up and becoming more mature while Heidi still struggles.

    Hi Glosslizard and Karen,

Thought I would keep you both informed, the testers for the new Hydramax active range and the new spf 50 came in today and ive got to tell you you are missing nothing with the spf 50!
I am so dissapointed! It is really thin and watery like a milk, it leaves a white colour on the skin like something you would put on a small child on the beach and it smells like cheap soap!! Also the bottle is absolutely tiny and at 29 pounds ( around $58) it is massively overpriced! I will be saving my pennies for sure!

On a positive note the new Hyrdamax active is great, very similar to the original line which i love so im pleased! I also lucked out and got my hands on all the old testers that are totally full so i came home with a hydramax moisture boost fluid, an activateur hydration and a bronzer in sierra 🙂 i love my job!

LOL so I have to admit that I do on occasion put on makeup in the car. Normally I try to keep it while I’m stopped at lights, but on occasion I do simple stuff while driving…typically when a light changes and I’m halfway through rubbing on tinted moisturizer etc. I can rub in moisturizer without looking. 🙂 I do however have horrible phone habits while driving, but I have a bluetooth…so not too big of a big deal.

    Hi Tania,

I know! Every time they show Heidi she’s always flipping her hair back and talking about how “Lauren and Spencer’s drama” had nothing to do with her and Audrina. I think she’s realizing now what a big mistake she made… and every time Spencer opens his mouth on that show I become more convinced that he’s a caveman.

Have you noticed that they never show her boss, Bret Bolthouse? And that scary Lisa Love’s been MIA too?
