MAC Originals Eyeshadows

December 24th, 2007 by Karen 22 Comments

The MAC Originals collection eyeshadows have a little somethin’-somethin’ for every girl (or makeup loving boy).

For the neutral lurvin’ ladies and gents…

And here’s some cool shades for the cool kids…

Last, but not least, a few fun shades for your party side!

Are you feeling these? I was really anticipating the eyeshadows in this collection, and so far I have not been disappointed. My faves have been Ochre Style, Frisco, A Little Folie, Clue and Parrot. I thought I’d fall in love with Daisychain, but, honestly, if you already have Shroom or Ricepaper you don’t really need it. I’ll be doing looks featuring these colors in the next few days, and I’ll provide more detailed reviews then.

Naughty or Nice?

Are ya’ll ready for Santa? I’m going to leave out some cookies and milk; hopefully he leaves me some Chanel.

El Hub and I are heading out to the East Bay (beast in pig latin, yo) to hang with my family. Time for some food, fun and karaoke!

Whatever you’re doing tonight, I hope your heart is filled with joy and love. Merry Christmas!

Makeup Tips: MAC Parrot Face of the Day

December 20th, 2007 by Karen 43 Comments

MAC Parrot rocks down to Electric Avenue

Face of the Day with MAC Parrot

mac-cosmetics-parrot-eyeshadow-fotd-2

mac-cosmetics-parrot-eyeshadow-fotd-eye

This is a really easy face of the day that I wore to work today. It took just five minutes to do my eyes.

To get this look I used:

Eyes
Brows – MAC Concrete
Brow bone – MAC Ricepaper eyeshadow
Crease – MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow
From lashline and then barely into crease, with the color most concentrated on lashline – MAC Parrot eyeshadow
Outer V – MAC Club eyeshadow
Top lashline and on waterline – MAC Jadeye Fluidline eyeliner
Inner corner – MAC Vex eyeshadow
Lower lashline – MAC Woodwinked eyeshadow
Underneath eyes and on lids – MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer in NW 25
Upper and lower lashes – Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Mascara in black

Cheeks
NARS Torrid blush

Lips
MAC Princely lipstick
MAC Enchantress lipgloss

mac-cosmetics-parrot-eyeshadow-fotd-1

Other ways to modify this look:

– Line top lashline and/or waterline with Blacktrack Fluidline liner, and then liner bottom lashline with Jadeye Fluidline.
– Line top lashline and/or waterline with Blacktrack and leave lower lashline bare!
– Line top or bottom lashline with Uppity Fluidline.
– Use Jadeye Fluidline as a base on from lashline into crease instead of Select Moisturecover concealer to intensify Parrot’s color.
– Using a wet 266 brush, apply Club (the color, not the weapon) onto bottom lash line.
– Make the look smokier using Club in the crease.

Yup, it’s official. Me likes the MAC Parrot.

Karen

MAC Parrot Lust Grips Nation

December 19th, 2007 by Karen 39 Comments

December 19, 2007 – Droves of women prepare to pounce on their local MAC counters today to purchase Parrot eye shadow, one of the most highly anticipated products from MAC’s “Originals” collection.

“The claws are coming out today, no doubt,” says Karen of Makeup and Beauty Blog. “Parrot is the stuff of legend! And I’ll lay the smack down on all ya’ll to get my mitts on it – believe me, you b*tches ain’t ready.”

parrot-lust-grips-nation

MAC Parrot eyeshadow first hit the scene in Salsabelle, 2004’s limited edition summer collection. A deep aqua blue with bright green and blue pearl, Parrot quickly sold out in stores and online, causing many a MAC fanatic to hopelessly lust after the color. Some (like moi) went so far as to mix and match different shades, while others meticulously hunted for duplicate shadows in other makeup lines. To this day Parrot remains one of the most sought-after colors in the entire MAC line.

If you’re curious at all about Parrot, you better snag it now, lest the only parrot you’ll be getting this Christmas will be from the pet store. Frankly, I’d rather have some hella cool blue green shadow in my outer V than a big-ass bird screaming “CAW! CAW!” all day long.

Loves it!

As of this morning, Pink Lips was sold out on the MAC Web site, but if it’s still available at your local counter then snag it, ASAP.

I’m off to the gym to work off the mountains of fried food and carbs I ate at that Puerto Rican restaurant in SF last night, but I’ll be back this afternoon with the Coral Lips swatches for you!

How was your evening? Did ya party like a rock star?

MAC Makeup Reviews – MAC Royal Assets Tan Lips Palette

December 12th, 2007 by Karen 12 Comments

MAC Royal Assets Lip Palette O’ Rama, Part I

mac-cosmetics-makeup-royal-assets-lip-palettes-all-closed

Holiday shopping is hard work. You have to hunt and gather, compare and contrast prices, and use your wits to find the shortest lines. Shoot, just the other day I almost had to wrestle a girl for a purse I wanted to buy for my moms … and you better believe I would’ve taken that girl down right there in the middle of Macy’s too. If we’d had spears we’d have been just like the cave girls of yore.

It isn’t always easy to find the right gift for someone. After a brutal day of shopping, you deserve a lil’ reward for all your hard work. Go on, snag a MAC Royal Assets Lip Palette ($22.50) or two for yourself. I won’t tell Santa, promise.

There are four palettes to choose from — tan, coral, red and pink — with coordinating colors for every lipstick loving gal.

In the tan lips set you get:
Pure Pomp – Soft yellow gold with gold pearl
Sceptre – Light tan with bronze pearl
Privee – Midtone brown with gold pearl

Each case fits easily into a clutch purse, perfect for nights out on the town. Also, each palette comes with a small lip brush, too. Normally, I don’t like tiny brushes because they can be too small to use well, but I decided to keep these for on-the-go spot touchups.

Check back later on for swatches of the other sets. 🙂

Karen

MAC Makeup How-to: Bold Red and Purple Eye with Light Lips and Cheeks

December 5th, 2007 by Karen 31 Comments

A Colorful, Fun Holiday Look for a Casual Get Together with Friends

The holiday party season is here, both the parties we dread and the ones we look forward to. I’m going to a few this month, which means I get to see friends I haven’t seen in a while and try out some new makeup looks, hooray!

I’m very shy when it comes to bold eye colors, but, alas, a girl cannot live on brown eye shadow alone. Lately, I’ve been feeling adventurous, trying brighter colors to really push my look.

But I need a little help when it comes to using bold colors, so I followed the directions for this bright red and purple eye featured on the MAC Website. This is the “Her Fancy” look, one of four Antiquitease face charts.

mac-cosmetics-makeup-antiquitease-milady-engaging-mineralize-eye-shadow-fotd-1

mac-cosmetics-makeup-antiquitease-milady-engaging-mineralize-eye-shadow-her-fancy-eye

I’m attending a friend’s birthday dinner in a few weeks (a casual night out in the city). To keep the focus on my eyes, I plan to wear a black top, gold jewelry and jeans along with this fun, colorful look.

Here’s the face chart I used. All the makeup was by MAC.

mac-cosmetics-makeup-antiquitease-milady-engaging-mineralize-eye-shadow-her-fancy-face-chart

If you’re new to bright eye colors like I am, then I highly suggest picking up the colors I used in this look: Mi’Lady and Engaging MAC Mineralize Eye Shadows. They’re beginner friendly, and you can easily turn up or down the color intensity.

I hope your Wednesday is going smoothly so far! Hold on, ya’ll! We’re almost there.

MAC Viva Glam Lipstick Palettes, a Fab Gift Idea for $25.00

December 2nd, 2007 by Karen 14 Comments

G-L-A-M … O-R … O-U-S!

MAC Viva Glam, you rule. Your lipstick colors work on all shades of skin and you always have the coolest spokespeople (love ya, Dita!).

Buy a lipstick, change a life. Is it that easy?

Well, yes. Every cent of the sale proceeds from MAC Viva Glam goes to the MAC AIDS Fund.

This holiday season MAC’s Viva Glamorous Compacts give you the chance to sample these universally flattering shades and help support a fantastic cause.

Two palettes, each with three Viva Glam classics, await your lovely lips.

You can work the Warm Lips palette:

MAC Viva Glam V Lustre Lipstick – neutral pink with pearl
MAC Viva Glam V Lipglass – neutral pink with pearl
MAC Viva Glam VI Lustre Lipstick – warm terracotta-plum fusion with subtle pearl

Or, rock the Cool Lips palette:

MAC Viva Glam II Satin Lipstick – muted pinkish-beige with subtle shimmer
MAC Viva Glam IV Frost Lipstick – mid-tone rose with a subtle gold shimmer
MAC Viva Glam VI Lipglass – warm plum with multi-reflective, multi-dimensional pearl

Each palette costs $25.00. I love them both, but if you’re a hard-working student or a budget-minded beauty then opt for the Warm Lips palette to get Viva Glam V. I’ve seen the color on so many different women and it always looks great.

I’m feeling a little better today. Blast you common cold (*sniff*)! I’m off to slurp some chicken soup. Don’t forget to take your vitamin C, ya’ll!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
