10-Minute Work or Weekend Makeup With Red Blush, Red Lipstick and Smudgy Bronze-Black Cat Eyeliner

January 13th, 2018 by Karen 24 Comments

10 minute makeup
Today’s 10-minute makeup

A few things:

  1. It’s Saturday morning, and I’m wearing the same pajamas I put on Thursday night.
  2. My head feels like it’s being squished in a vice (yes, I’m still a walking germ factory).
  3. I haven’t washed my hair in three (four?) days.

But thanks to the healing power of makeup, I can pretend I briefly look like I’m a somewhat functioning adult, LOL!

This 10-minute makeup look was 1) to help myself feel better, and 2) for Sheena (yay for the Bay, girl, woo-hoo!), who liked the NUDESTIX Intense Lip + Cheek Pencil in Purity post earlier this week but wanted to see me use a darker color from the line.

This time I used warm red Stiletto, and I used it as both a blush and a sheer lip color. And then I also did a smudgy, bronze-y black cat eye.

Everything I used is listed below, and if you have any questions, you know where to find me (hints: it involves Netflix, a laptop and my couch).

nudestix stiletto
When you’re trying to not look like you’re a walking germ factory…
nudestix stiletto
Oh, this? I always look like this when I have a 101-degree fever…

One note about the skin. I used a very sheer liquid skin tint to even everything out just a touch, then boosted the coverage on my cheeks with a loose foundation. This is a very cool shortcut I like to do when I’m pressed for time/have very little patience.

Also, because I went into this look planning to only spend 10 minutes on it, and because the pencil was an opaque bright red, I opted for the sheer lip stain because I figured I’d be able to fudge the edge of the lip line (which I did).

After I was done with the look and snapped pictures, I went full out for five more minutes by lining and filling in my lips for the red lip in the pic below…

nudestix stiletto
If you have an extra five minutes, then line and fill in your lips with the red pencil, and add a little bit of eyeliner and mascara to the lower lash lines

BAM!

I also added more liner on the lower lash and water lines, MOAR mascara (because why the heck not?) and blended the bronzer into the blush a little more thoroughly.

I feel like this is a pretty polished enough work look, yeah? Or, a look to perhaps just sit on the couch and watch the season 4 finale of The Great British Baking Show?

I’m just saying.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy Caturday, friend. Hope you’re staying warm and having a great weekend so far. I’m just mostly chilling out because I still don’t feel fantastic. I don’t know if this is that flu they’re talking about (I did get a flu shot this year) or just a cold, but if it is just a cold, it’s the worst cold I’ve had in a while.

I think it’s getting a little better, though. My face still hurts from sinus pressure, but I can walk around without moaning like a zombie now, and I desperately want to bake something today…so that’s progress. ?‍?

P.P.S.

Products worn in this look

  • Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Tint in Honey and Natural Beige — I’m somewhere between the two, so I dot a bit of both shades all over my face, then blend them together with a beautyblender.
  • Sweat Cosmetics Mineral Foundation SPF 30 in Shade 200 — This is the same loose foundation as Sweat’s to-go brush applicator…but in a jar.
  • MAC Matchmaster Concealer in Shade 4 — Still crabby ? that this is being discontinued…
  • NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder — The best under-eye concealer setting powder ever, IMO
  • Hourglass Arch Brow Shaping Gel in Clear — This just launched this week. It has a softer hold, comparable to the MAC clear brow gel.
  • Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette — Very pigmented, needs the lightest of touches
  • Chanel Stylo Yeux in Horizon — For the tight line
  • NUDESTIX Magnetic Eye Color in Night — For the smudgy cat eye liner
  • MAC Eyeshadow in Mulch — Buffed out the edges of the cat eye liner with this bronzed brown.
  • Tom Ford Full Screen Mascara — Lashes
  • NUDESTIX Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Stiletto — Blush and lipstick
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Bronzer in Radiant Bronze Light — Cheeks, and in the crease

I love a good red lipstick. Makes any day look about 10 shades rosier (pun intended). I hear you on the killer cold. I got a bad one in December and my sinuses have still not fully recovered! Feel better!

      Hi Maritza,

The ones that linger are the worst. I hope you feel 100% soon! I’m so over the cold season…

I love the first look. So very French. You are the best looking “sick girl” ever.

    Get well soon!

Sorry to hear that you are still not feeling 100%. Rest. Sleep. As much as you can, when you can. I know it’s so hard to do when you’ve got a toddler. And fluids. Water, water, water. Some tea, some OJ. When you think you’re better, rest a bit more so it doesn’t come back to whallop you again. And if you go out in public, wash your hands immediately after you walk in the door at home.
I’ve gone through a ton of hand cream these past two weeks, because I keep washing my hands and then applying hand cream so they don’t dry out.
Sending healing vibes your way, so you feel better soon.

Thanks, friend. 🙂 I needed that reminder. I tried to stay on the couch today (wasn’t completely successful because I needed to pick up my new glasses), but I spent most of the day trying to rest.

Did you find The Great British Baking Show on Netflix? I had to take a break from it today.

I love the eye look! I love cat eyes done with pencils but it takes me so ling to do it I shy away from it! I hope you feel better soon! I had a minor cold, but feel much better after staying home a few days taking loads of garlic, drinking Emergen-C and having a couple hot toddies.

      Hi Indya,

I think the trick to doing cat eyes with pencils is to use a smudgy pencil that 1) you can manipulate easily with an angled brush (I couldn’t have done this look without one), and 2) will eventually set either on its own or with a bit of powder shadow on top. You can totally do it! I know you’ve got the skills, girl!

You are the MOST AMAZINGEST. I’m totally digging the smudgy red ‘just bitten’ lips. I may have to end my New Years resolution to shop less 11 months early. I’m also currently a walking snot-bag and my sinuses feel like they’re about to explode except I’m not as glam about it and I’m seconds away from shoving Kleenex up my nose and leaving them there and mouth-breathing for the rest of the day. Whatever is going around our neck of the woods is brutal. And this after having my Christmas vacay ruined by the flu. UGH. But thank you so much for this, you’re wonderful.

      Hi Sheena,

Thank you for the great post idea! I’m always looking for different ways to approach 10-minute makeup so this was fun. Granted I ended up taking it off soon afterwards because my nose was dripping in snot (and still is), but hey. At least for a little bit I didn’t look like a zombie. I hope that you feel better soon! This cold is kicking everyone’s butt, it seems.

The blush is super flattering on you! It’ll be really nice in the summer, I think! I hope you feel better soon, that flu/cold sounds horrible.

      Hi Katie,

Yes, it would definitely be a pretty summer blush. I can see it looking extra nice with a juicy, glossy lip.

Take care of yourself and stay healthy!

Thank you, Robin. I’ve been trying hard to just rest… It sounds silly but there’s always something to do, and I have to force myself to stay on the couch, which is where I’m typing from right now (thank goodness for lap tops).

    Karen,
You poor thing…I’m sorry you are still sick. I have to tell you, you look really good for someone who is sick! Like they used to say on SNL…”It’s Better to Look Good Than to Feel Good”!
The Flu is in epidemic mode here on the East Coast. I have Wet Ones Antibacterial Wipes everywhere–in my car, in my purse–everytime I touch anything out in public–a door handle, a shopping cart handle, the subway handle bar etc I use a Wipe–I look like a crazy Hypochondriac but I don’t care!
Feel better! Kitty cuddling always helps!
    xoxo

      Hi Annemarie,

Thank goodness for sweet kitty cuddles because the flu is no joke. Now that I think about it I think the baby and I caught a mild version of it. 🙁 I’ll be glad when it’s over.

I hope you stay healthy! Give Rosie a few scritches for me. 🙂

Love this eye look! Sorry you’re sick!

I love that foundation – the lightest shade is a bit dark, but I can often make it work because it’s so lightweight and sheer.
