It’s Time to Shine a Light on the New NARS Illuminators

February 23rd, 2011 by Karen 43 Comments

It’s time to shine a light on an illuminating development, ladies. 🙂 Last week NARS released three new shades in their Illuminator line. You may have seen the names Super Orgasm, Laguna and Copacabana ($29 each) before because all three are very familiar faces on NARS counters (have I ever mentioned how I can’t live if living is without Laguna Bronzer?). Now they’re just adding illumination to their repertoire.

I’ll share a detailed review soon, but for now here are some pictures and swatches. Let me know what ya think.

For a caption on the picture above I was about to type, “Illuminators without the flash,” but it sounded hella weird. 🙂

Hope you’re having a great night!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ooooh, they look much prettier than I’d anticipated! Do you have any swatches of them more thin and blended/sheered out like they’d look when actually applied?

I hope you’re having a great night too, Karen! I looking for a liquid illuminator, so these babies sound perfect! I like Super Orgasm. I haven’t tried the famous blush, so this could be a unique opportunity to try both – in one tube!
Although, after reading this I might need to grab a Laguna, too!

Just wondering, is the Laguna Illuminator too dark to mix in with foundation? Is it really pigmented; or will it just leave a light bronzey glow? Thought I’d ask before I splurged 😉

I love this product! I got it in a sample kit from one of those sephora boxed deluxe sampler things, but its an awesome product. Its not very pigmented, but gives you a nice little shimmer. :]

Laguna could be mixed with foundation or moisturizer in spring and summer if it has no sparkles, it looks like it doesn´t. I have ordered Laguna because it looked amazing but now I am in love with Copacabana. I didn´t order it as I have the multiple and I don´t use it that much but the colours seem different. Much better this Copacabana

The lady at the shop showed me the Super Orgasm one when I got my Calanque palette two weeks ago – it’s beyooooouuutiful! As she said, perfect for a summer blush (still quite intense).

    I might splurge.

      Hi Agnes,

How often do you wear highlighting products? If you think you can get a lot of use out of it, then go for it!

They look cool, but really are too pricey for an illuminator…they remind me of Bonne Bell or CG stuff I still have from a few years back.

I really like the look of these and I’m a sucker for words like glow and sparkle! That said, I’m usually doing my makeup in 5 minutes and rarely use High Beam as it is (due to morning time constraints). I don’t think they’d get much use. However, I’m still looking forward to your full review! 🙂

Me too. I’m finding that as I get older the glowy stuff becomes more and more essential… they totally perk the skin up.

And you need to give that High Beam some love, girlie. That’s some magic stuff!

I know – aging skin and winter are getting to be a bad combination. You’re right; I’ll make extra time for High Beam in the AM! 🙂

I got a sample of the Orgasm Illuminator with my Feb. Birch Box. I think its awesome but I didn’t know there was a Super Orgasm. Your swatch seems pretty much the same as the sample one I got though. I also like the Jose Maran Illuminizer.

I’ll have to check the Orgasm one at Sephora. From what I recall it’s slightly less intense… we’ll see!

That Josie Illuminator is fab, I agree!

Thank you for these swatches. I’m not sure which I would go for… Super Orgasm or Copacabana. Seems to me I might be able to get some nice highlighting in with the latter, but I’m so used to working with shades like Super Orgasm as blushes… Not sure. Wish they had a mini set!

I wonder if these are simular to the smashbox illuminators? I would probably use the light pink one which is simular to the one I am using now. Looks very pretty.

I have the Orgasm illuminator, released a while ago, and while it is very pretty, at times mixed in with my foundation, it doesn’t have much of a brightening effect for my face it seems. I’m NC20 skin, for reference. Super Orgasm does seem to have a little bit more of a glow, and I’ll be sure to swatch that and Copacabana (I love silvery pink highlighters on my skin!) next time I go to Sephora.
