Sometimes I like to do this thing where I pick a few words or a phrase to set the tone for my week! This week’s phrase is “fill up your cup.”
It’s basically a reminder to be nice to myself — to do things throughout my day and week that replenish my physical or mental well-being in some way.
Are you good about filling up your cup?
I’m notoriously not great at it. I’m the type of person who will move throughout my day from morning until night constantly checking off task after task to keep work and life going, but I’ll forget to build in time for myself to truly rest and recover.
So, I’m trying to get better at filling up my cup! Because I love lists, I started by making a short one:
- Get enough sleep (go to bed at 8)
- Wake up at 5:30
- Enjoy all the personal care things: skin care, doing my hair, ironing my outfit for the day, etc.
- Spend the rest of the time before 7 doing fun stuff just for me! Ideas: Journaling, reading, working out (but it can’t be torturous, something like stretching or yoga)
- Some kind of fun hobby, like photography
It’s only been two days and I can already feel a difference in my body and in my mood. I think it really helps to have that time to do something kind for yourself that’s for you and you alone.
In what ways do you fill up your cup on a daily basis?
Do you paint, workout, dance or read? I would love to know what nourishes you.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

yoga and daily meditation but the yoga has been haphazard

I used to meditate first thing in the morning, but then I’d just fall asleep again! LOL
What kind of yoga do you do? Do you go to a class?

It’s been hard these past few weeks, because we’re in the process of selling our house, buying another one, and moving. So stressful! But taking time to read is definitely important to me. And listening to my favorite podcasts. I do various crafts, but that’s all in boxes right now!

I walk every day. If it’s too cold or icy to be safe, I have a treadmill. The best part of the treadmill is I can listen to music on ear buds (when I’m outside I remain fully aware of my surroundings for safety.) It can both invigorate me or calm me, depending on my mood. Afterwards, hot tea or a icy cold kumbucha (Humm sugar free in blood orange is my current fav).

I will have to try that Humm kombucha! Sounds amazing! I love kombucha but don’t care for all the added sugar!

Karen, I don’t think I could get up at 5:30! That’s way too early! I do like to get a solid 8 hours of sleep though. Most evenings, the boyfriend and I are able to watch a movie or show together after the girls go to bed. That checks off my “me time” and also gives us some quality time together. So that fills my cup.

For daytime I like a good cup of coffee at home in a favourite mug before I start my day even if it’s while I dry my hair, sometimes with more time I can look out the window and admire the trees or watch birds or squirrels going about their business and it reminds me I am part of something much bigger. I like to do meditation stories as I am getting ready for or am heading to sleep and that time albeit at the end of the day fills my cup for a soothing sleep and sleep matters right?!
I wish I could be as routine oriented as you sound Karen … I am working on it. One day … 😊

Sleep is huge for me, but often gets neglected as I just can’t go to bed at 8. I am setting fixed hours for certain things though and stop when time is up though, which leaves me with time to read or just do nothing afterwards.
