Small Things That Bring Me Joy (Makeup and Otherwise)

May 23rd, 2023 by Karen 13 Comments

Chanel Summer 2023

1.The travel-size Chanel summer collection

I’m excited about this launch! I feel like this is the collection Chanel fans (especially the ones like me, who adore the summer launches) always wanted but didn’t know they needed. It’s chic and portable, with just enough coverage and color for beautiful summer skin, eyes, cheeks and lips.

It launches in June, and includes cute travel versions of the Bronzing Cream (Tan, Tan Medium and Tan Deep Bronze), Water-Fresh Tint (in 8 shades from Light to Deep Plus) and Illuminating Oil.

There’s also two Rouge Coco Flash lipsticks (pink beige Destination and sienna red Escapade), two metallic liquid shadows (ivory beige Rayon and peachy pink Quartz Rose) and two Rouge Coco Baume sheer lip balms ( Pink Delight and brownish mauve Sweet Treat). These appear to all be in the regular size, not minis, by the way.

YES!!!

I’m especially excited about the cream bronzer because it was a go-to staple for me back in the day! A smaller version sounds purr-fect.

2. When exercise feels fun

I stumbled upon this fun walking workout with ’80s music this morning!

I was feeling tired and not in the mood at all to do burpees or mountain climbers, and it was exactly what I needed to get my body moving.

I have this idea in my head from years of running and doing HIIT that exercise always means one has be a little miserable in order to get the endorphins at the end, but I know now that that’s simply not true. Not all exercise needs to feel like punishment, LOL! Sometimes it’s just fun to get moving.

So, lately, I’ve been trying to incorporate more joyful movement (aka exercise that doesn’t feel like exercise) throughout my day.

One thing I love – short 8-minute walks. Why 8 minutes? Well, 10 minutes sometimes feel like too much of a commitment, and 5 minutes doesn’t feel like it’s enough. For some reason 8 is a good number for me, and if I do it three times before noon, that’s 24 extra minutes of movement.

3. These tiny lil’ lemon bars from Trader Joe’s

I bought a box of these years ago and for whatever reason wasn’t into them, but I recently picked one up on a whim, and it certainly hit the spot.

I totally just ate this. BTW, the nail polish is Chanel 141 Oiseu De Nuit!

Maybe they tweaked the recipe? Who knows. Whatever they did, they’re now perfection.

The custard is tangy, not overly sweet, with a chewy (but not too chewy) texture. The shortbread on the bottom is also present but doesn’t take over. If you’re in the mood for a lemon bar but don’t want to make them, these hit the spot. You can find them in the frozen section by the ice cream. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

So the Water Fresh Tint will be travel sized? I like that since I’m between colors and usually have to mix. It would be better to buy two half bottles than two full sized ones to mix.
Love 141 Oiseu De Nuit (Night Bird) on your nails. Is it a straight up black or a blackened blue or blackened purple like the original Vamp?
That workout reminds me of Jazzercise from the 80s and 90s but with better music.
My trainer says it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you move every day. Some days my old body is just so sore and achy and I’ll just go for a fast walk (the phone says I average between 3.8 and 4.3 mph when I walk) with my trainer and if we have time we stop to pick up a cup of coffee at the end. When Dear Husband had covid a few weeks ago and isolated in Dear Daughter’s old bedroom, my phone said I climbed 36 flights of stairs one day. That was between bringing him meals and tea and water and taking away dirty dishes and doing loads of laundry. I considered that a workout.

Yes, the Water Fresh will be 15 mL per bottle. Good idea to grab two and mix; that really is the best way to adjust according to the seasons! I used to do that and stopped because lazy. LOL! Oiseu De Nuit is my new favorite color. It’s a really dark purple that almost looks black! I’ll try to get a better shot of it in the next few days.

You really should try the workout. It’s super fun and it goes by fast!

I like the new revamped brush on those polishes. Let us know how it wears compared to the previous formulation.

The brush is REALLY great, I have to say. I’m testing Oiseau de Nuit with different top coats right now!

I’ll be very curious to hear the results of the top coat testing!
On another note, I did a return at Sephora today and got a sample of EL Double Wear Sheer and the girl who helped me had the prettiest blue nails. A satiny shimmer blue, that was somewhere between a medium sky blue and aqua. Of course I raved about the color.

So far I’ve tried it with the Essie Gel Coat and the new Chanel top coat and the Chanel one is the front runner. I’m going to try it with the OPI top coat next!

The Chanel Rose Quartz is a color I wear frequently for a “no makeup” polished look for work. Can’t wait to see this whole collection!

I love the T.J.’s lemon bars. But I love anything lemon.

I love lemon cake, lemon cheesecake and lemon bars, especially — but I don’t always like the effort involved in making them! These are pretty good for being from a store!

It’s SO beautiful. I’ve always loved summer collections but now really appreciate them due to my more pared-down makeup aesthetic.

Happy Wednesday! Hope your week is going great. 🙂

Chanel always brings joy! 😉 And I think the polish is worth a buy just for the fun of saying Oiseau de Nuit. HAHA!

You and me both. Malice Blush forever and ever. What would we do if they ever discontinued it? Probably freak out. LOL!

I really think I might! I’ve been down to the center of the pan for quite a while, and even though I still have plenty around the edges (kind of like a monk’s haircut – HAHA!), I still get just a bit nervous about running out. It won’t be long before I grab a new one!
