What Are Some Beauty Trends from the Last Few Years That You Tried?

June 8th, 2023 by Karen 4 Comments

Once upon a time, I loved an accent nail

It’s crazy to me how beauty trends constantly evolve and change, and how our own tastes for those trends change!

For example, I remember when accent nails first hit the scene and thinking that it was a little odd to have a single nail with a different color, but eventually I came around to liking it and rocking it all the time. This was 2013 or 2014?

Anywho, now, years later, I much prefer to have a more traditional mani with just a single color across all my fingers. No more accent nails for me (for now, at least).

Some other trends within the last few years that I tried, in no particular order…

  • Bold brows — I even went through an intense phase where I did a complicated routine with carved out brows, OMG!
  • Nose contouring — I did this for a while and liked how it looked in pictures, but then I stopped doing it when I felt like I *had* to do it every day to just step out of the house. I think that feeling like I needed to correct how my nose looked made me perceive that there was something wrong with my features, and I didn’t think that was healthy for me mentally in the long term. So I stopped.
  • Overdrawn lips — Again, I like how this looked in pictures. In real life though, I think it might’ve just looked like I couldn’t figure out where my real lip line was. LOL! At the time I thought it was cute, though.
  • Intense bronzer — Man, I wore so much circa 2014!

How about you? What are some beauty trends from the last few years that you’ve tried? Do you still like them?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Glitter polish when it first appeared was fun, but man, the removal process is a nightmare. Now it’s just too difficult – who wants to schedule 45 minutes just to remove polish??

But what happened to Smith & Cult? I love their polishes, and their website just vanished.

Like Lisa I sorta fell for the glitter and flakies nail polish, but hate the removal.
I would say I did the bold brow trend, but I naturally have full brows (thanks dad!) and I only tweeze the strays underneath. So I always have bold brows. And my Mom warned me to never tweeze my brows skinny because they might not grow back.
Oh there was that time Urban Decay did a sort of mermaid or boho set of shadows that was blue, green, teal and purple. I bought all of them but couldn’t figure out how to do a look on my eyes, which have always been hooded.
I guess since I didn’t really get into makeup until I was older, I mostly ignore the trends and do my own thing. Especially the over drawn lips. On me it would just look like crazy old lady is too blind to see her lip line.

I don’t know if this counts as a ‘trend’ but a tip I got from Wayne Goss is to put your powder on first and then your foundation. It’s been a game changer for me! You don’t look like you’re wearing powder but it makes make up stay put without needing a heavy foundation – try it..!

    Great for summer heat…

You know I’m far from trendy, but I wish I’d have gotten advice from Tatiana’s mom. HAHA! I didn’t exactly have skinny brows, but they were quite arched back in the day. I get to think about that over-tweezing mistake every day when I’m filling in bald spots and trying to make my brows look thicker.
