How to Get More Mileage Out of Your False Lashes

December 10th, 2014 by Karen 18 Comments

I’ve been riding the false lash train pretty hard lately (eh, I go through phases). I usually do a layer of mascara on my bare lashes before I apply my falsies (instead of after) because it makes cleaning easier and puts less wear and tear on them, and they don’t get as goopy, which means I get to reuse them a couple more times.

Sometimes I do go the other way, though, applying my mascara after my falsies to really marry them together, but I’m not Mariah Carey… I can’t see her reusing drugstore lashes (in my mind she has a new diva set every day), so I’d rather be able to reuse my lashes a few more times instead.

How about you? Do you usually apply mascara before or after false lashes? Or not at all?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I have a lady date tonight! — and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m meeting my friend Marisol, and we’re gonna go to Sephora, and we’re gonna go to HomeGoods, and we’re gonna get ramen, which is basically a recipe for a really happy evening. 🙂

Hope you’re doing something fun today too on this soon-to-be very rainy day. (There’s a storm brewin’… Didn’t Sarah Connor say that?) Yeah, I don’t even know if I should bother doing my hair. That’s the thing about cutting it shorter. You gotta do “stuff” to it.

I can’t say much about the lashes because you know I still haven’t mastered applying them.

Your lady night sounds like a lot of fun. Are you picking anything up from Sephora?

I just came back from the gym (after not having been there since May, I think), it felt really good to be back!

I can’t say much about false lashes since I need more practice with them. Sounds like a fun evening tonight. It’s best to go out before the “big” storm. I’m curious to find out if it’s really as bad as they say it will be.

I need to go to Sephora but I’m waiting for the coupon they said they mailed me.

I usually apply mascara after the falsies. It makes applying them easier and it looks nicer most of the time, they don’t just sit there on top.
Of course, that makes their life span shorter, but as I wear them about twice a year, it doesn’t really matter.

Your girls date night sounds like fun. Can you believe I never tried Ramen? It sounds delicious, I will add it to my list.
Stay safe if there really is a storm coming.

i LOVE false lashes but i feel like i need a dressy occasion to wear them. for some reason i feel silly in them doing regular things, even going to dinner, like i tried too hard. is that silly? do i need to get over it?

I’ve been wearing eyelashes a lot lately too.It wasn’t a easy skill to learn but I was determined to be able to apply falsies. The Sephora eyelash applicator helps a lot. I also use my tweezers to place and push them down. Now I can put them on in about 10 mins. I like the Revlon self adhesive Fantasy Lengths in Flirty . I still add Duo glue for extra hold. I haven’t seen the Eylure lashes in stores yet but I’m on the lookout for them.I use mascara first and then put my lashes on.

False eyelashes scare me the way red eye shadow scares you!!

Today I rest and read and sit by a warm fire and wait for the rain to come to me. I ain’t going to it!

Hey, pull the hair up into a pony, add a hat or scarf and do an Audrey Hepburn in “Charade” (well, no running through a train station).

The gal pal fun sounds like fun! Sephora is like a candy store of makeup.

I always apply mascara before false lashes. Usually just a light layer so it isn’t obvious after I put on the falsies. Have fun on your lady date! I have one tomorrow morning with a friend to grab coffee and shop Sephora. I feel like such an old person going on a date in the morning, but I’ll take what I can get. I’m easy! Ha!

You’ve totally turned me into an Eylure fan, Karen! I tried them on for a MAC shift last weekend and I loved them.

I haven’t tried false lashes .. I don’t really have the need, no fancy places to go. I would like to play with them a bit though.

I’m pretty sure Mariah gets mink extensions and still uses mink falsies!

When I try falsies, I have a feeling it will be go (ridiculously) big or go home. It’ll most likely be a special occasion so I’ll probably use mascara before *and* after. 😉 I have a feeling that I’ll be ready to rip them off in a not-so-gentle way by the end of the evening so re-use probably won’t be much of an issue. 🙂

I usually only apply mascara to my bottom lashes when I’m wearing falsies. I actually hate applying mascara to my falsies lol. It’s just unnecessary in most cases and messy. Mascara makes your falsies harder and more prone to germs. Plus you won’t be able to reuse them and that’s like the best part about falsies for me lol

I have only had false lashes once (the individual ones)that someone applied for me and I hated them. Some of them started to come off, they seemed to get “tangled” in my real lashes and some wouldn’t come off at all. I was away from home at the time and it was a huge mess.
That said, I may try them this saturday. I have a lady date with myself because everyone else I know is too busy. I’m going to Ulta for an Urban Decay Master Class and makeover. If anyone here is in central Jersey, meet me at the HOlmdel, NJ Ulta. 🙂

I”m on a huge falsies kick too. I wear a pair about three times before I toss them, but I get the jumbo packs from China (which are actually great quality). I apply mascara before and then maybe curl the falsies and my lashes together if need be. For cleaning, I take a makeup remover and rub it along the band with my fingers and then rinse with warm water. Let them dry over night. Boom.
I have lashes application down to about a minute each eye, including letting the glue get tacky.
