What’s in a Name? With NARS G-Spot Multiple, A Lot

October 15th, 2011 by Karen 22 Comments

Oh, NARS! You and your cheeky naughty nurse names. 🙂 I would love to sing the praises of your new G-Spot Multiple ($39; part of the new Holiday 2011 collection) to every woman in my life, but as much as I love the color, I can’t bear the thought of mentioning it to my mom…

I can hear it now — she’d like the color and would say, “I really like that G-Spot!” or “Thanks for the G-Spot!” or “Next time you order online, would you get me a G-Spot?”

Sure, Mom, okay, anything, can we please talk about something else?

It’s like that time we were stuck in traffic when George Michael’s I Want Your Sex was playing on the radio, and my brother yelled, “TURN IT UP!”

Now THAT was a long ride home, but I digress…

About G-Spot’s rosy golden hue, I think it looks kinda dark at first, but blended in this cream blush produces the most perfectly coy “Please be gentle with me” flush.

Love. love

And it gives my cheeks a good bear hug, too, latching on to my dry skin for a good five or six hours, which is not too shabby, tabby — especially for a cream product.

Win a $50 Sephora eGift card from Makeup and Beauty Blog
Okay, I’m so full right now it’s not even funny… I just got back from THE BEST little breakfast place here in Novato called Marvin’s. El Hub and I went, and whenever we go there, I always get The Farmers’ Benedict (with the hollandaise on the side). Today I just about cleaned my plate, so now I’m uncomfortably full.

You know that feeling when you’re so full that even undoing the top button of your pants doesn’t help? Hello! That’s me right now.

How are things in your neck of the woods? I hope your weekend got off to a good start. I don’t have a whole lot going on today, which is nice. I promised Tabs I’d take him for a nice, long walk, but after that my calendar’s wide open. 🙂

While you’re here, take a moment to enter both of this weekend’s ongoing giveaways. After entering this one, click over to The 2011 Breast Cancer Awareness Month Sign Project and Giveaway. The prize for that one is a whopping $1,126 in makeup from MAC, Clinique, Make Up For Ever, Estée Lauder and Bobbi Brown (click here for the full details).

With that said, I think you know what time it is. It’s…

A Makeup and Beauty Blog Giveaway!

Win a $50 eGift card from Sephora" title="Win a $50 eGift card from Sephora

  • One (1) Sephora eGift card containing $50 sent to the winner by email (international readers, you may opt to receive $50 sent by PayPal instead).

  • There are two ways to enter, and you can do both of them for two chances to win. First, you can enter by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post, a comment about anything at all, like, what’s your favorite breakfast food? What’s the fanciest restaurant you’ve ever been to? How do you feel about DIY beauty products that use kitchen ingredients? When was your last haircut? — you get the idea.
  • Second, you can enter by following me on twitter Twitter @karenmbb and retweeting (RT) the following message:
    • Follow @karenmbb and RT to Win a $50 eGift Card from Sephora! http://bit.ly/qO23K7

  • Sephora eGift Certificates can only be redeemed online and are not valid in stores or available for purchase or redemption in Canada. International winners may opt to substitute the Sephora eGift card prize for $50 sent directly to their email address by PayPal instead.
  • Tabs and I (heretofore referred to as “T-Money and K-Dawg”) will select one (1) winner at random from the entries either left in the comments at the bottom of this blog post or addressed to @karenmbb on Twitter.
  • The winner will be announced here within 48 hours of the deadline.

Nowhere To Go But Up

A tiny snail clinging to one of the leaves at the top of my orange tree. Why did she climb so high? Where was she headed? What did she plan to achieve by getting to the top of this tree? So many questions…

NARS Holiday 2011: The Larger Than Life Eyeliners in St. Marks Place and Campo De’ Fiori Make Quite a Team

October 14th, 2011 by Karen 18 Comments

nars st marks place campo de fiori

Like other classic pairings — peanut butter and chocolate, Lady and the Tramp, Ryan Gosling and shirtless-ness — the purple and bronze Larger Than Life Eyeliners ($23 each) in the new NARS Holiday 2011 collection are even better together than they are apart.

If you haven’t tried any of the Larger Than Life liners yet, the cosmetics camaraderie between vibrant violet St. Marks Place (has a matte finish) and shimmery bronze Campo De’ Fiori, the only two liners in the holiday release, makes them a great place to start.

Both of these highly pigmented, super soft liners cling to lash and water lines like raindrops cling to roses. I applied both of them before lunch yesterday, and they were still hanging tough a full eight hours later.

For even more NARS Holiday 2011 coverage…

I haven’t had an opportunity to put their water resistance through a rigorous test like the nervous breakdown I had in the middle of heavy traffic a while back, but since the other colors managed it well, I see no reason why these wouldn’t also be up to the task.

If you’re curious about eye color and looking for ways to incorporate more of it into your looks, here’s one idea: apply purple St. Marks along your upper lashes, and bronze Campo along your lower lashes and at the inner corners of your eyes (the sides closest to your nose). I’m wearing both of them here with a smokey blue/bronze/gray eye (using the NARS Mandchourie Eyeshadow Duo from this same collection), but you could just as easily wear them with other colors or have them fly solo on bare lids.

Celebrating the End of the Week with NARS Joyous Red Lipstick

October 14th, 2011 by Karen 22 Comments

nars joyous red

There are two kinds of fall. There’s the fall where you get caught in the rain one gray day without an umbrella and cold raindrops slide down the back of your shirt, making you cry “Yeee!” while you clench your fingers and toes, and then there’s the fall right after the first rains of the season, when the sun returns, at least for a little while, and grasses and saplings have sprouted on the hillsides and turned them all from brown and yellow to green.

That second variety of fall is the one that reminds me of the new NARS Joyous Red ($24; part of the new NARS Holiday 2011 collection). I can’t think of a more fitting red lipstick to wear on a sunny Friday in fall. 🙂

NARS could have called it Celebration, because that’s how wearing it makes me feel — like I’ve just slipped on a pair of old jeans and found them a little loose (in other words, YAY!).

NARS has a knack for super wearable, eye-catching reds (Dolce Vita springs to mind), and for me, Joyus Red was love at first swipe. Warm, with golden orange undertones and a semi-matte finish, it even has microscopic flecks of golden glitter.

Just gorgeous, and I can’t wait to see it sing on gals with warm skin tones.

The lightweight, unscented and unflavored formula has a semi-matte finish that may be slightly drying, especially if you already have dry lips, so you might try prepping your lips first with a layer of moisturizing balm beforehand. As for wear time, it clocks in at about four-five hours on me (stays on like a MOFO!).

I LOL’d at How Strong These $2 Jordana Lip Out Loud Super Shiny Glosses Taste and Smell

October 14th, 2011 by Karen 18 Comments

Jordana Lip Out Loud Super Shiny Gloss (4)
Wearing Jordana Cosmetics Lip Out Loud Super Shiny Gloss in XOXO

Princess Jordana LOL’d as tendrils of glimmering pink, fruit-scented mist climbed from her creation on the table in front of her, up her gown and along her outstretched arms. And it wasn’t one of those cutesy manga “tee-hee!” giggles either. It was one of those throaty, villainous laughs, like “MWA-HA-HA-HA-HAAA!”

“TWO DOLLARS!” she roared triumphantly. Her assistant, a chubby tabby cat with marbled sides, nodded in devious approval, and then proceeded to lick his tum. “Think of all of the money that lipgloss-obsessed women will save once they discover these hydrating, non-sticky, semi-thick glosses with their sheer-to-medium coverage…

“Think of it, Tabs! With the ducats we’ll save, we’ll finally be able to build a mercenary army of tabbies and begin our conquest of the world!”

Tabs paused, offered the princess an expressionless look, appeared to sneeze once, and then resumed licking his tum.

Okay…

Too much? 🙂 Seriously, though, these $2 Jordana Lip Out Loud Super Shiny Glosses aren’t half bad.
