What’s the Best Lesson You Ever Learned about Caring for Your Hair?

May 3rd, 2009 by Karen 55 Comments

No more heat styling

Mine was learning (the hard way) not to use a blow dryer every day.

At one point I had hair crispier than a bucket of the Colonel’s Kentucky Fried. It was awful!

These days, I air dry and limit blow drying to once a week. Now my hair feels healthier, for sure.

A couple other things that work for me…

  1. I stopped shampooing every day. Now, I’ll shampoo two to three times per week, depending on how often I exercise. The rest of the time I’ll follow #2.
  2. I’ll use a conditioner in place of my regular shampoo a few times per week. My hair feels better when I treat it with kid gloves. I’ll actually wash with the conditioner, rubbing it into my scalp and through my hair the same way I’d use shampoo.

How about you? What’s the best lesson you ever learned about caring for your hair?

Karen

Kim Kardashian: Her Best Hair?

May 3rd, 2009 by Karen 14 Comments

kim-kardashian-hair-poll

Kim Kardashian (born Kimberly Noel Kardashian on October 21, 1980 in Los Angeles, California), caused quite a stir on the interwebz last week with her new, caramel-colored ‘do.

It was hard to imagine her with something other than her trademark long, dark hair, but it turns out Kimmy didn’t actually take the plunge into J.Lo Land — The blonde hair was actually a wig she’d worn for a photo shoot.

Kim hasn’t been a big risk taker with her hair color, but she’ll switch up her overall look from time to time with bangs and curls.

Which of Kim's hairstyles do you like best?

Bath and Body Works Butterfly Flower: On Sale Now

May 2nd, 2009 by Karen 19 Comments

bath and body works butterfly flower body lotion shower gel fragrance mist

I *wish* I had Mariah Carey on speed dial because I’d ask her if she had something to do with the name Bath & Body Works gave to their new limited edition spring fragrance line.

Doesn’t Butterfly Flower sound like something she would have come up with? 🙂

You know, she has that obsession with butterflies, rainbows, Hello Kitty, glitter and all things fourth grade that makes me wonder (still lovin’ ya, Mimi!). Hmm…

I don’t know about you, but I always look forward to new BBW fragrance releases because I never know what to expect.

New for spring, products in the Butterfly Flower fragrance collection of gels, lotions, baths and creams ($5-$30 each) pack notes of freesia, mimosa flower and honeysuckle. Those are what I detect, but here’s the company’s official breakdown of the fragrance:

Butterfly Flower
Top notes: Black tea, tangerine, cyclamen (a flower), banana leaf
Middle notes: Orchid, Asian syringa flower, French mimosa
Base notes: Creamy coconut milk, musk

BBW’s floral blends can sometimes overwhelm my sensitive nose, some even smelling overly synthetic on my skin. I usually prefer their crisp, clean scents like Rainkissed Leaves, but Butterfly Flower is lighter than most of their floral fare.

I’ve been testing three of the items from the 16-piece collection…

How to Get a Natural Lash Curl

May 2nd, 2009 by Karen 49 Comments

Good morning, ladies! I hope your weekend got off to a good start. I’m not sure what I’ve got going on today, which is good in that it probably means there’s nothing I absolutely HAVE to get done.

For this post I’ve done a quick video (click here for the video) showing how I curl my eyelashes. I apologize for not putting up any videos lately, but I’ll get back into the habit again.

Enjoy your weekend! Let me know what you’re up to.

Boyfriend in Your Pocket

The Pocket Rocket Lipglosses from Urban Decay ($19) crack me up. Is it weird that I want to give my mom one for Mother’s Day?

How Often Do You Get Your Hair Cut?

May 1st, 2009 by Karen 126 Comments

karen-new-hair

I must confess, I don’t do it as regularly as I should. I finally got it cut yesterday (see above!) for the first time since last June. YIKES! I blame it on laziness and the fact that it’s long, which means I can let it get scraggly without it bothering me too much. Now that I have bangs, though, I have to get better about scheduling regular trims.

How often do you cut your hair? Do you go in for regularly scheduled cuts or whenever it strikes your fancy?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. That’s Prescriptives Guava Lipgloss and Papaya Lipcolor on my lips!
