OK, is it raining there as much as it’s raining here? — because I swear, we haven’t gone more than three days without rain in, like…I don’t even know how long. This El Niño character is awfully insistent about his rain.

Rise and shine, morning glory! 🙂 Rain or shine, it’s Caturday!

Poor Tabs… He hasn’t gone outside for a walk in days, and he has some tabby depression about it. He hates the rain. Well…he’s confused by it, because the sound and the movement of the water fires him up, but then when he goes outside in it, he realizes that it’s all wet and cold and annoying, and he wants nothing to do with it.

I also think he blames me for the weather, like it’s all my fault and I’m dropping the ball as his professional pet assistant. “What!? What the hell is this WET stuff!? It’s EVERYWHERE! Girl, you are doing a terrible job managing my wants and needs!”

In other news, I have a fun-filled weekend of baby growing and grocery shopping lined up. Yup, the excitement never stops at Casa de MBB. It’s a thrill a minute, LOL! I hope you’re doing something fun.

Good luck in the giveaway! Meg here won earlier this month. I wonder what she’s gonna get…

I'm super excited because I never win anything, but I won a $50 Sephora gift card from @karenmbb… https://t.co/GsP67BKDq1

Pregnancy Update, 32 Weeks!

January 15th, 2016 by Karen 25 Comments

There should be a video right up here in this post, but if it isn’t appearing for any reason, you can click here to watch it on YouTube.

I can’t even believe it. The finish line is in sight! Early March is right around the corner, and BG (a.k.a Baby Girl) and I, as usual, have been up to no good. 🙂

Totally kidding, LOL! Here’s what we’ve been up to over the past few weeks: lots of baby classes, and she’s been getting bigger and BIGGER by the minute. And we’re both just enjoying each other’s company as long as we can.

Oh! I mentioned my friend Arianne from Glitter Geek in the video. She’s been a big help with pregnancy information, and I love her cute pics of her daughter (and my cat niece Scherbie) on Instagram.

Too Cool For School Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara Takes Your Lashes to Jurassic Levels

January 15th, 2016 by Karen 12 Comments

dinoplatz mascara

cute-dino-lashesBecause…DINOSAURS.

I have this theory that if you want something to be more awesome, stick a dinosaur on it. Or in it. Whether it’s a movie, a lunchbox or, in this case, a mascara…although the dinosaurs don’t have much to do with the lash lengthening, curling and separating properties of $25 Too Cool for School Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara.

They do, however, enhance the experience… Because they’re cute. 🙂

To Powder or Not to Powder?

January 15th, 2016 by Karen 48 Comments

Holla at me in the comments!
Holla at me in the comments!

To powder, or not to powder — that is the question!

When I first started wearing makeup many moons ago, I thought face powder was a non-negotiable. It all started one day when I went to a Clinique counter with my mom, who really wasn’t then, and still isn’t now, into makeup, but, bless her heart, she did her best to indulge my interest.

The makeup artist at the counter made it sound like powder was an absolute must! — so for many years I believed that you absolutely had to wear powder, and that was the makeup gospel. (Cue the stern but heavenly angels.)

Did you ever feel that way? Or was that just me?

My outlook has changed over the past couple years, in large part because of my combination dry/oily skin. One day, after putting on a full face of makeup when my skin was leaning more toward the dry side, I skipped powder.

I think I just forgot that day, to be honest!

But it ended up working out, and I really liked the way my skin looked without the powder. My foundation stayed in place, and my skin didn’t look as dry or flaky as usual… It was just one of those happy makeup accidents.

Most of the time, I still wear face powder (especially when I’m taking pics or doing videos, because I do like how it looks on camera), but now I’m more strategic about where I place it on my skin, like just on the oily areas — my forehead, nose and chin.

So, what’s your position on face powder, friend? Is it a non-negotiable, a semi-negotiable, or is it something you usually skip?

Karen

P.S. TGIF! 🙂

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer Demo and Application

January 14th, 2016 by Karen 9 Comments

There should be a video right up here in this post, but if it isn’t appearing for any reason, you can click here to watch it on YouTube.

How good is new Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer?

To put it in heavily hyphenated terms, it’s get-out-of-your-pajamas,-put-on-your bra-again-(right-after-you’ve-taken-it-off-for-the-evening),-and-drive-straight-to-Sephora-immediately good.

Yup, that good!

If you haven’t seen the swatches yet or read the review, here you go.

And here it is in all its magical action (in the video), along with a few more observations and a mini-review. 🙂

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible Cover Concealer: the basic scoop

  • Available now online and at Make Up For Ever counters, stores and Sephora in 10 shades; $27 for a 0.23-oz. tube.
  • The 10 shades are divided into two complementary groups — the color-correcting shades, which include R20 Porcelain, R22 Pink Beige, R30 Beige, R32 Peach Beige and R40 Apricot Beige; and the concealing shades, which include Y21 Pearl, Y23 Ivory, Y31 Sand, Y33 Vanilla and Y41 Honey.
  • The setting powder I mention in the video is MAC Mineralize Natural in Medium ($32)

As always, thank you for watching!

For Real or Wannabe Biker Babes: The Bare Traps Harly Mid‑Calf Boot

January 14th, 2016 by Karen 12 Comments

bare traps harly boot 890

bare traps harly boot

Do you, or someone you know, ride a motorcycle? I have several biker babe friends — like, legit motorcycle riding chicks with their own hogs, helmets and other accoutrements — and they, along with these $89 Bare Traps Harly Mid‑Calf Boots, are probably the closest I’ll ever get to motorcycle riding.

GIRL, I do not belong on a high-speed two-wheeled motorized vehicle (or a two-wheeled vehicle moving at any speed, really). I drive too slow, I’m too nervous, and I have the reflexes of an ancient turtle, so there’s just no way that scenario would play out in my favor.

So I don’t do motor bikes…but I do do biker boots, and I love this pair because they look like melted chocolate…

Yum!

They hit just about mid-calf, so if you’re on the short side like moi, they’re purr-fect. Not too high, not too short.

Wish I discovered Bare Traps sooner because they feel heavenly on my feet. I can wear them straight out of the box without having to break them in at all.

Bump Watch: 32 Weeks

January 13th, 2016 by Karen 52 Comments

me and baby girl at 32 weeks

I’ve often wondered how it would feel to look like a scoop of pistachio ice cream, and now, thanks to Baby Girl and this green sweater, I know. ??

That cute little bump from four weeks ago isn’t so little anymore, thanks to all the growing BG has done over the last month! I think I read somewhere that pregnant ladies are supposed to put on something like a pound a week in the third trimester… She’s 32 weeks now and about the size of a head of lettuce, but I feel like I’m hauling around a watermelon strapped to my tum.

me and baby girl at 32 weeks

I spend a lot of time wondering about her personality and what she’ll look like. Will she be outgoing like me, or will she be more introverted like El Hub (or a diva like Tabs)? Will her eyes be brown like mine, or will they be hazel like El Hub’s?

And what about her toes? I hope they’re long and maneuverable like mine. I can pick things up with them like little monkey paws, which comes in quite handy when I want to pick stuff up off the floor!

I also really, REALLY hope she gets El Hub’s eyelashes, because if she does, she’ll have hit the eyelash holy grail, because his are long, thick and curly (and, of course, because he’s a guy, he doesn’t appreciate them at all, sigh).

It’s fun to think about these things, but what I mostly do now is just hope for the best. When I finally get to meet her, more than anything else, I hope she’s healthy. That’s the only thing I really want.

Karen
