How Are Your Brows Doin’?

October 17th, 2013 by Karen 37 Comments

Brows
Oh, hai there, mr. fuzzy caterpillar!

Mine are still p@ssed off at me about the ’90s, LOL!

I ran into a makeup buddy at Sephora last week, and what did we end up talking about?

Brows. 🙂 Of course, hers looked perfect — all lush, full and meticulously trimmed.

I asked her about them, and she said it took her “a whole month” to grow them out.

Cat lady says what now…?

A whole month? Gee, I’ve been growing mine out since May, as in five months ago, and I still feel like they could be even fuller. Sure, Raul, the notorious bald spot on my left brow (curse you, Raul!) isn’t as obvious as he was last spring, but it ain’t exactly like Brooke Shields up in there, if you know what I mean.

I blame it on the ’90s, otherwise known as the decade when I almost plucked my brows into oblivion. I look back on it now as one those unfortunate beauty lessons I guess I had to learn the hard way.

Yup, big sigh…

How about you? Are you happy with your brows right now? Are you growing them out or doing anything else with them? Or are they already thick, wild and jungly, and in desperate need of a thread/wax/trim? Inquiring minds want to know.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

It’s a Fiesta of Feline Fall Fashion, AKA a Cat Lady Clothing Bonanza, at Anthropologie

October 16th, 2013 by Karen 33 Comments

Peter Som for Anthropologie Cat Dress
Wearing a new hairdo and cat lady clothing

We’re lucky we live in 2013, babe. It’s a purr-fect time to be a cat lady, purr-ticularly as it purr-tains to fall fashion.

Fur serious! blinking tabby

I feel like feline fashion has been all over the place lately (hello, tabby cat tee and sweater). Cat-themed clothes are having a major moment.

Of course, you know I’m lovin’ it.

Today after my haircut I stopped by the Anthropologie store at the mall to investigate (read: try on) the latest in fall feline fashion…

Cats are HUGE at Anthropologie right now, and a lot of the stuff is pretty darned cute.

Peter Som for Anthropologie Cat Dress ($198)

Love this dress!

The best thing about this Peter Som for Anthropologie Dress isn’t the colorful print, or how it could pass for floral from far away (like an optical illusion), or how it miraculously makes waistlines look a little thinner (although that’s fabulous, I gotta admit).

IT’S THE POCKETS!

It has pockets. And they’re roomy, too. So convenient for carrying lipglosses and/or cat treats.

I wasn’t able to find it online…so you might want to check your nearby Anthropologie store for availability.

Tabitha Petite Leopardeau Jacket ($148)

What a fun, flexible piece! You could wear the Tabitha Petite Leopardeau Jacket ($148) loose, by keeping the drawstrings at the waist undrawn, or cinch them in for a more fitted look like I’m wearing in these pics.

I’m still kicking myself for not bringing this home…

I bet the khaki, black and tan would go well with tons of different shoes, boots and purses.

Pumpkin Madness, Vol. 2

October 16th, 2013 by Karen 8 Comments

Last Saturday I got a sudden, unrelenting craving for Three Twins ice cream, so El Hub and I headed down the 101 to their ice cream shoppe at the Larkspur Landing mall.

Right out in front of the shop, there’s this thing called an honor farm pumpkin patch. You just pick a pumpkin you want from the patch, and then voluntarily pay (well, that’s the idea) the suggested amount in the little lockbox.

Of course, being the pumpkin fiend that I am, I wanted one of the gigantasaur, 300-pound pumpkins because — just imagine all of the pies you could bake with that! — but there was no way we were fitting one of those bad boys in the backseat of a Mazda.

Oh, well.

By the way, that’s the Zella Galaxy Fleece Hoodie, Poverty Flats by Rian Perforated Satchel and Fergie Fallen Boots I’ve talked about.

The pumpkin madness continues…

Have you had any strange pumpkin sightings lately?

Too Faced Be Merry Be Bright

Those are Be Merry products on my eyes and cheeks and Too Faced La Crème Lipstick in Spice Spice Baby on my pout.

According to My Calendar, It’s Time for a Beauty Treat: The New Benefit Countdown to Love Advent Calendar Beautifully Counts

October 15th, 2013 by Karen 19 Comments

Benefit Countdown to Love Advent Calendar
Counting down to love with the new Benefit Countdown to Love Advent Calendar

Five, four, three, two…

LOVE! love

The countdown to love is on, and Benefit is managing the clock. You might feel the love, too, if you find Benefit’s new Countdown to Love Advent Calendar ($68) under the tree this year.

Benefit Countdown to Love Advent Calendar
Hmm… I wonder what’s inside.

Remember advent calendars when you were a kid? With the tiny toys or pieces of candy hidden behind little pop-out compartments? They’d usually start on the first day of December, or thereabouts, and you’d get to open another one of the compartment every day all the way to Christmas.

The ones I usually got had hard candies and chocolates, and those were always fun, but Benefit took the idea to a higher plane of awesomeness with their new Countdown to Love kit, which was obviously designed to drive Benefit babes wild.

Benefit Countdown to Love Advent Calendar
Merry mini madness, and a happy new kit

Countdown to Love comes with 24 surprises, which works out to just under $3 each, including 21 travel-sized mini Benefit products and three accessories (two charms and a barrette).

Benefit Countdown to Love Advent Calendar
Who’s that Bad Gal?

Yes, it’s really, really cute, albeit extra large, but it’s more than that. It contains some of the best stuff in the Benefit line — practical, everyday products you could work into your rotation immediately, like Hoola, CORALista, Benetint and Highbeam.

I’m Sensing a Warming Trend From the Sheer Shadows and Blush in the Pixi Warm Wonder Seasonal Reflection Kit

October 15th, 2013 by Karen 11 Comments

Pixi Warm Wonder Seasonal Reflection Kit

The new Pixi Warm Wonder Seasonal Reflection Kit, $22

Pixi’s new Seasonal Reflection Kit in Warm Wonder comes with — you guessed it — warm tones, in the form of eight powder eyeshadows and a powder blush.

I’m getting a distinctly autumnal vibe, like autumn leaves…

Or is that just me?

The eyeshadows sure shimmer, but they’re firmly on the sheerer side (surprisingly sheer), which makes them fab for weekends and casual makeup looks.

It’s available now at Target stores and online. Normally, it goes for $22, but it’s on sale now for $17.

The kit also has a cool-toned counterpart, and I’ll post some pics of that one soon.
