My Lips and Eyes Glaze Over Topshop’s Sheer Glaze Lipgloss

June 14th, 2011 by Karen 32 Comments

“Mmmmmm. Glaze.”

I mumbled that out loud while standing in line at Starbucks the other day, and with a slightly sleazy enthusiasm that would have made Homer Simpson proud. I was just staring off into space, thinking about Topshop’s three new Glaze lipgloss colors ($12 each).

I’m usually pretty good about keeping my inner voice, well, inside, but Glaze’s creamy finish, non-sticky texture and NOM-worthy vanilla flavor and scent (both fade after about 5 minutes) got the better of me. The gentleman standing in front of me turned around in line, raised an eyebrow and said, “Excuse me?”

I had no reply, except to smile nervously until he looked away. 🙂

Topshop, a British clothing retailer, also has a line of makeup, available exclusively at their stores and online, and along with their permanent collection products for eyes, face, lips and nails, they have some seasonal releases, too.

The Glazes live in Topshop’s permanent line, and these three new shades bring the color selection to five. I hope the company decides to add more, because from what I’ve seen so far, I think these are kinda great.

They remind me of less expensive, longer-lasting versions of MAC’s Cremesheen Glasses ($18 each) that feel slightly thicker on my lips.

Like the MAC Cremsheen Glasses, the Glazes lend a whisper of creamy color and a kiss of soft shine. If you’re deep in the throes of a sheer lipgloss love affair like I am right now, consider Laid Back (a reddish coral) and Bubblegum (a warm pink with subtle golden pearl). They’re the two colors I’ve tried. Both are quite sheer, though, so gals who pine for intense pigmentation might want to pass.

While they don’t make it through a meal, both of them seem to stick around for about four hours on me — twice as long as a Cremesheen Glass.

I only wish these were easier to find. There is a store here in the US (New York) that carries them, but that means online ordering and shipping fees. Topshop usually charges a flat $10 for shipping, which significantly adds to the price, but ordering more than one tube at a time somewhat softens the blow.

If you’re interested in the Glazes, this might be a good time to act, as Topshop’s offering free shipping on all orders for a limited time. Not bad at all.

These Glazes deliver an easy-to-wear, low-maintenance lip look that’s just perfect for summer. If you long for a creamy gloss that you can just whip out for touch-ups without a mirror, the affordable Glazes should sweeten your days.

PRICE: $12 each
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Topshop stores and also online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A (I only wish they were more readily available)

Denial: ’tis not just a river in Egypt

***GAME OF THRONES SPOILER ALERT***

I’ve been living in complete Game of Thrones denial this week. I had to watch the last episode again, and again found myself saying, “This can’t be happening!” at the end.

I don’t know if I’m more impressed by how courageous the writers were for doing what they did (NOOOO!), or mad as hell.

In somewhat related news, I received a message by raven this morning from Tabs in which he informed me of his allegiance to the House of Baratheon. He now demands gravy tribute and that I hang the appropriate banners from his cat tower by nightfall.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Oooh, I love Cremesheen so I may have to pick these up while there is free shipping to be had!

AND OMG at Game of Thrones! I finished reading the first book before I saw this episode and I was dreading this part. Sean Bean is the best part of the series in my opinion. The show is very, very faithful to the novel (it doesn’t deviate at all really) so it had to be done. 🙁 I hate that stupid blonde thin-lipped little boy! Haha.

I started the first book a few days ago — am about a quarter of the way through. I’m really getting attached to Arya and Jon Snow, and I keep having to tell myself that I can’t expect them to make it to the end. 🙁

Are you going to read the rest of the series?

I definitely plan on reading them all. I’m already halfway through the third book. I’m mad that the whole series hasn’t been released yet because now I’m going to have to wait for the other books. I don’t wanna wait! I wanna know NOW! Haha.

Are you going to try and read all of the books before the second season comes out or just stick with the first? I haven’t been this enthralled with a series, books or TV, in a long time so it’s nice!

We’ll see how far I get. I’m really enjoying the first one! 🙂 I’m very fickle when it comes to series books, so hopefully this one will keep my attention (so far it has).

Out of the books you’ve read, which one is your favorite?

I love the way these look! I was just about to place a topshop order and was wondering if I should throw these in the cart, and now I have my answer. Your blog has been really lucky for me lately!

I had the same reaction when i saw the last episode of Game of Thrones!!I held on until the last scene and was like noooooooooo….! My husband who has been following the books says that many of the characters that APPEAR integral to the plot arent actually that way. They just set up the scene for the main plot.

Yes! I havent been reading the books, so I figured “no way are they going to get rid of someone so integral to the storyline”. I was waiting for the Hollywood moment of the king having a last minute change-of-heart and sparing Eddard Stark , lol. SO dissapointed!

Me too. Part of me wants to believe he’ll wake up in the next episode and have it all be a terrible dream. It’s probably not going to happen, though. I just started reading the book and the show seems to stay pretty true to it.

These look great on you! I may have to order Laid Back. I’m glad there’s free shipping; maybe I’ll feel less like I have to check out the clothes because I’m “already placing an order.” Fiscal responsibility! It’s boring, but useful!

    Also, LOL @ gravy tribute

P.S. I downloaded the Cat-o-matic app after you mentioned it. Gizmo is now convinced that there are cats being held captive in the kitchen, lmao (it’s where I had my phone). She was staring at me with this alarmed expression on her face. After taking a few minutes to process the noises, she walked in to explore and look for the cats. I hope she wasn’t concerned when she didn’t locate them!

These look pretty cool, but I have been loving NYX MegaShine glosses so much I have forsaken all others. Maybe I should start a secret affair with Laid Back. 😛

I have had my awkward vocal slip-ups. I remember when I mispronounced “Nagaina” while discussing “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” in my 7th grade English class. I made it sound like a certain female anatomical part. Twelve year olds are so unkind.

I love how those NYX glosses look but can’t stand the scent/flavor. They’re priced so right, LE SIGH!

Ahh, I think we’ve all had those mortifying middle school moments. I once accidentally let one rrrrrip while my sixth grade homeroom was watching a movie… it was beyond mortifying!

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH, “MMMMMM GLAAAAAZE…..”

I love that and do it myself constantly. I can have entire conversations about how “i need another teal eyeliner like I need a hole in my head” and last night I got the side-eye from a woman at CVS when I mumbled “$3 off John Frieda? Yes, believe I will color tonight.” hahaha
