Why, Yes, I’m Having a Summer Romance with the Illusions D’Ombres De Chanel Collection for Fall 2011

June 30th, 2011 by Karen 31 Comments

Fall makeup always makes me think of doing fall-ish things, like sipping hot cider (or maybe a little eggnog) by the fireplace or the wood-burning stove, carving pumpkins (which I’ve only done once or twice), or skipping down suburban sidewalks past huge piles of orange and yellow leaves, and kicking ’em up (SWOOSH!) every once in a while with the tips of my thigh-high suede boots. 🙂

Since summer’s only just begun, however, I’ll have to wait a while before the eggnog shows up at Trader Joe’s, but I won’t have to wait to wear fall makeup, not with so many lines launching their limited edition fall stuff early. Seriously, next year we’ll be celebrating Christmas in July!

To blur the lines between the seasons, and to ease our transition from summer makeup to fall, a couple of the lines have been sprinkling fall pieces into their collections that also look great right now, like Chanel did with the new Illusions D’Ombres De Chanel.

The launch is ripe with fall-ish smokey shades and dark metallics (NOM!), but there’s also a handful of products I could easily see myself wearing with a slip dress and sandals, like, now.

Take these here, for example…

Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme

Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Fantasme ($36) I love how that silver glitter shimmers in direct sun, and could it be any easier to apply? One or two layers on my lids with a fingertip — that’s all there is to it. I swear it even makes me look less tired because of how it lightens up the dark area at the inner corners of my eyes. There’s been some chatter out there about fallout from the glitter, and I see some of it, too, right beneath my eyes and sometimes on my upper cheekbones. That’s probably the biggest mark against Fantasme, but I think it all depends on how you feel about glitter and where it does and doesn’t belong. This may sound strange, but I actually like the way this glitter gets around (to a point). It just seems to fall in all the right places — almost like I’ve also applied a shimmery highlighter.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Platine

Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Platine ($29) Remember Rose Platine, that killer taupey beige liner from Chanel Spring 2011? Khaki is like her golden green, taupey sister. Wait — hear me out! 🙂 I know it sounds unusual, but like Rose, this creamy pencil liner gives eyes a subtle glow. A dash along my upper and lower lash lines, a quick curl from a lash curler, maybe a little mascara for good luck, and I swear I look like all glowy and well rested. Paired with summery coral cheeks and lips, it’s perfection. No joke.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A

Rogue Coco in Plumentis

Rogue Coco in Plumentis ($32) If you happen to have naturally pigmented lips (like mine), take a gander at this plummy pink. It’s lovely with nude lip looks, and it plays really well with MAC Evolution Revolution Lipglass. 🙂 The tiny flecks of glitter also give it some kick.
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+

Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Pampille

Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Pampille($32) I’m still deep in the grip of a sheer gloss phase, and although I think I’ve seen this plummy pink with silver sparkles somewhere else before, I gotta say — I like the way it looks, especially on top of Plumentis lipstick. MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B

Take your tabby to work day

Do you work in a pet-friendly environment? Tabs keeps me company now, but Furry friends weren’t allowed at the office I worked at in the city.

I bet it would be such a blast to work in an office filled with pets.

I have a feeling I’d have to engage in some serious gravy bribery to get Tabs on board, though. He loves humans, but he’s got a dominant streak when it comes to other kitties getting up in his space. He would be the office thug!

Maybe if he had the tallest cat tower in the office, from where he could survey the other cat workers… 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That Khaki eyeliner has stolen my heart. i have a lot of eyeliners but nothing that looks even close that that one. To bad I can’t bring myself to pay nearly 30 bucks for it. 🙁 I’ll just admire it from this side of my computer monitor…

I love how Tabs looks like he’s the master of the domain, surveying his subjects from his perch on the cat tower :).

Tabs looks so handsome and mischievous up there, like he’s plotting something, haha. He made my day :D.

After having a great debate about the Illusion D’Ombre shadows, I finally gave in and ordered one. Outside of my usual price range, but they were just so stunning and I read they’re just as long wearing as they claim. Fantasme looks great on you, I can’t wait to try one for myself :-)!

I hope I like khaki platine IRL as much as I like the way it looks in your photos! You also look lovely in Pampille – work it!

I love the idea of anything that makes me look more well-rested! Will have to consider the shadow and that gorgeous pencil!

Missy would definitely not be open to sharing her space with other critters. She loves people, other animals, not so much!

That pencil is really pretty! I really don’t need a new eye pencil, but I am very tempted to take a look at it. The eyeshadow’s gorgeous, too, but since fallout drives me crazy, I think I’ll have to skip it.

Take Your Tabby to Work Day should happen at least once a month. I don’t know if I could participate, though. Tigger really hates being in the car (he associates it with the vet), so I don’t know how well that would work. Gizmo is paranoid about everything (between the paranoia and the hours she spends just watching me, I’m starting to think she’s a spy), so that, too, would be a nightmare. Clearly, the only way to rectify this situation is to get another tabby, and train her from an early age to go to work with me! 🙂

Clearly getting a third cat is the only way to go!

For a while I was stuck on the idea of getting two kittens for Tabs, but I’m afraid once I hit that third cat it’ll be my “gateway cat,” you know? Because why stop at three when you can have four or even five kitties?

LOL, a gateway cat! I hope Nancy Reagan doesn’t start filming “just say no” commercials to speak out against CCLs.

When I was a kid, my family briefly had four cats (outnumbering the humans), It was a lot of fun, though, despite all the litter box scooping: four kitties go through a LOT of litter, I’d consider having that many again, but more than that might be a little too intense!

Have you stopped the kitten search? It’s a good time for adoption because the ones born at the beginning of May or earlier are now old enough to go home with you. Do you think Tabs would like having more kitty friends?

Oh dear… I have to get Khaki Platine!!! I didn’t like the Rose Platine that much, something about the beigeness made me look dead. But the Khaki… *drools*

Also Plumetis looks great on you :). *thinking of picking that up as well*
Did you use a blush for this look?

Yes girls do run, not walk, to your Chanel counter and purchase that Khaki Platine eyeliner! I bought it last Friday and it is beautiful! Lovely soft silvery sagey green. I got Prelude and Illusoire too but that eyeliner is the bomb! Agreed about Rose Platine, it is nice but so light. Karen’s right again, alittle all over eye color like Benefit Nice Melons, Khaki Platine and mascara and you’re ready to rock! Love it

Love that Tabs! When I was little we had tabby cats and my mom used to tell me the “M” on their forehead was for my name! How cute for me to hear that. My collie would not do well if I took him to work. He loves everyone and would be demading they pet him and admire his beauty. If they ignored him he would get on their laps (ok – halfway on their laps ’cause he’s 85 lbs) and give them collie loving until they relented and hugged him. Dogs and cats ROCK! So much fun!

Your looks are totally fresh and summery; and I know, that you know, that I’m totally on board with the glitter. I actually love the look of Khaki Platine in your pics. It’s super pretty. I’m not sure about the $29, though. I know it’s Chanel, but it’s giving me pause. 🙂

No, sadly, we’re not pet friendly here. I’m pretty happy that casual wardrobes are fine, though. 🙂 Oh, and Happy 4th of July while I’m thinking of it. I hope you guys have a great weekend!

Maybe just swing by the counter just to play with it? You never know… a girl can always use a kick ass liner or two or ten, LOL!

Whatcha got planned for the weekend? I’m gonna hang by the pool, and that’s about it.

That eyeliner looks fantastic on you! *sigh* I love almost every single piece from this Fall collection. I’m heading to my local Nordstrom counter today. I’m definatley wanting a few of the new eyeshadows and I’m in need of a good neutral shadow quad like prelude… and the blush looks great… and the lipstick and lipliner…. the eyeliner is a must have. I think I’m in trouble 😉

Usually I’m kinda “eh” about them, but the eyeliners in the last couple of collections have been sort of fab! I hope this color works for you because it’s kind of amazing.

    That eyeliner is lovely!

I work in a chemical lab testing adhesives. We don’t test on animals or anything, but it’s definitely not pet friendly (though I have frequent dreams where my cats are roaming the lab)!

My husband works in a dog-friendly office, which is cute, but it’s partially a technical support call center, so sometimes callers ask about the barking in the background!

I, too, have dreamt of the kitties in the lab scenario. In my version the cats are wearing little white lab coats…

And that must be hilarious for people to hear the dogs barking in the background at your hubby’s work, LOL!

when i started working for my current company — we had three office cats. they were strays that we kept – in the warehouse first then eventually in the office. i loved having them around.

eventually, the wife of my co worker took them home. i miss them! 🙂
