Wild Cats Couldn’t Keep Me Away from MAC Fabulous Felines

August 26th, 2010 by Karen 66 Comments

mac fabulous felines swatches tabs top

Tabs couldn’t sleep at all last night and woke me up at 3 this morning like a kid on Christmas Christmas came early! morning. MAC Fabulous Felines pounced onto counters nationwide today (and international counters next month), and he wanted to make sure we made it to the mall.

We did. 🙂

Of the collection’s three color stories, Leopard Luxe was the one we’ve both been looking forward to the most (lots of warm corals and golds)…not that Burmese Beauty and Palace Pedigreed don’t also look interesting.

Despite its name, the collection isn’t just for fellow feline enthusiasts. If warm golds and corals sing on your skin/fur, get your paws on Leopard Luxe; if cool plums, pinks and blues crook your tail, consider Palace Pedigreed; and if you prefer to party with a mixed crowd, try Burmese Beauty’s blend of greens, taupes and browns.

I’d like to hear what you have to think. Take a look at these swatches, and hit me up in the comments.

Here Kitty, Kitty: Would You Like Some MAC Fabulous Felines?

August 25th, 2010 by Karen 37 Comments

mac fabulous felines

Yo, as if I needed yet ANOTHER reason to go all crazy cat lady on your @ss, the MAC Fabulous Felines collection claws its way onto makeup counters tomorrow, and from what I’ve seen so far, it might be one of MAC’s most purrr-fect releases to date.

NOTE: If you can’t wait till Thursday, don’t (it’s already available online). 🙂

Here are some pics to help you wrap your tail around everything. It’s a hefty release, with 52 pieces for eyes, cheeks and lips distributed among three different color stories…

  1. Palace Pedigreed — regal blues, grays and silvers
  2. Burmese Beauty — rich olives and teak
  3. Leopard Luxe — tawny creams and golds (Tabs likes these A LOT)

Tabs auditioned for the Leopard Luxe modeling campaign but never got a call back…

Keep your cool kitten eyes peeled for the Superslick Liquid Eye Liners ($17.50). Available in nine shades, these innovate long-wearing, water-resistant liners actually look wet when they’re dry, and Tabs thinks they’re the cat’s meow.

Viva La MAC Viva Glam! Swatches and Pics of the New Cyndi and Gaga Lipglasses

August 19th, 2010 by Karen 66 Comments

mac viva glam cyndi lipglass mac viva glam gaga lipglass swatches review

Back in college I volunteered as a peer health counselor, and one of my responsibilities was to visit the different dorms on campus and give presentations on HIV/AIDS awareness. Even though it took a lot of time, it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done (I felt like I was really helping people).

In a small way, MAC’s Viva Glam program allows me to still feel like I’m helping people, and maybe that’s one of the reasons why I like the limited edition MAC Viva Glam Cyndi and Viva Glam Gaga Lipglasses ($14.50 each) so much.

Well, it doesn’t hurt that they’re gorgeous, too. 🙂

If I had to pick between the two, I think I’d probably go with Cyndi’s shiny coral. Don’t get me wrong — I love Gaga’s creamy light bluish pink, but I tend to find warmer colors a little easier to wear.

Thursday MAC Attack: MAC Viva Glam Cyndi and Gaga Lipglasses, Prep + Prime Beauty Balm and Fabulous Felines!

August 19th, 2010 by Karen 17 Comments

mac viva glam gaga cyndi lipglasses

G’morning, glory. 🙂 Got some great news this morning for fellow MAC fiends.

MAC Viva Glam Cyndi and Gaga Lipglasses to go with the lipsticks released earlier this year

Two new limited edition Viva Glam Lipglasses, Cyndi and Gaga ($14.50 each), sashay onto MAC counters early next month (Sept. 2).

Matching the two previously released Cyndi and Gaga Viva Glam lipsticks, Cyndi’s will be a mid-tone coral; Gaga’s, a light bluish pink. Both will be available for six months through February 2011.

MAC started the Viva Glam initiative all the way back in 1994 to help men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS, and every dollar raised from the sale of Viva Glam celebrity-promoted products since then has gone to support the cause (they’ve raised missions so far).

MAC Venomous Villains: 101 Things You Didn’t Know

August 14th, 2010 by Karen 170 Comments

101 Things You Didn't Know About MAC Venomous Villains

Um, do you feel that…?

The tingling in the air? It feels familiar, like something I’ve felt many times before. It’s called Disney magic, and right now it’s everywhere! 🙂

In what turned out to be the BIGGEST post I’ve ever written for the blog (so big, in fact, that I suspect the server may crash), here are 101 things you probably didn’t know about Disney and the upcoming MAC Venomous Villains collection (but certainly will now).

The collection launches in the U.S. on September 30 and internationally in October.

1. MAC used the original Disney Pantone shades to develop the colors

When designing the four Venomous Villains sub-collections — The Evil Queen (as far as we know, that’s her stage name) from 1937’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Maleficent from 1959’s Sleeping Beauty, Cruella de Vil from 1961’s 101 Dalmations and Dr. Facilier from 2009’s The Princess and the Frog — MAC based the color stories on the original Disney character sketches and Pantone color guides.

They took it all into consideration — the attitudes of the characters, their skin tone, clothes and style — and not just the colors Disney used to ink them.

As a lifelong Disney fan and art fanatic, I’ve been looking forward to this collection for months!

Last June MAC revealed details about the upcoming release at an event in Los Angeles. Here are some pics from that event and a whole bunch of other stuff, too. 🙂

Enjoy!

MAC In the Groove: A Face of the Day with Stereo Rose Mineralize Skinfinish

July 9th, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

I was chomping at the bit to try MAC Stereo Rose Mineralize Skinfinish today but told myself I had to finish all of my chores first (gah! laundry). Now that I’ve gotten some quality face time with it, all I can say is WOOT! I can see why MAC mavens have been lusting after this shimmery coral blush.

For this look I paired Stereo Rose with icy blue/peachy pink eyes and a peachy pink pout. I got the idea for the eyes from this face chart (the one for On the Scene), one of six MAC made for In the Groove.

Looking kinda senior portait-y, ha ha!

Swatch Out! And Get MAC In The Groove

July 8th, 2010 by Karen 28 Comments

MAC IN THE GROOVE
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Stereo Rose

Today zillions of MACaholics (including yours truly) descended like locusts! were drawn to makeup counters like moths to a flame.

Question: Why did we do it?

Answer: To get MAC In The Groove. The 35-piece beauty bonanza — with makeup morsels for eyes, lips, cheeks and face — relies heavily on MAC Mineralize products.

With goodies ranging from $14-42, it’s like this year’s version of last summer’s Colour Craft, which I kinda adored.

Along with oodles of new makeup and a couple of highly anticipated re-promotes (Stereo Rose, anyone?), we also got a reformulated line of smoove Mineralize Eye Shadow Trios, YAY!

Did you swing by a MAC counter today? I’m curious to hear if you tried to snag shimmery golden coral Stereo Rose. Seems like it was one of the fast movers. I figured it might sell out at my local counter, so I called ahead to reserve one just in case.

If you weren’t able to visit a counter today, here are some swatches (for reference, I’m an NC35). 🙂

Does a New Formula Show These MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Trios How To Groove?

July 6th, 2010 by Karen 39 Comments

mac in the groove mineralize eyeshadow review swatches photos

Sometime today, between shaving my toe hairs and vacuuming the stairs (Tabs is shedding like cray cray!), I had an affair…

It started innocently enough with a crush (as they often do). I’d played with three of the nine new MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow Trios ($19.50 each) from the upcoming In The Groove collection. One thing led to another, yadda yadda yadda and BAM! — I couldn’t stop myself.

We’re supposed to meet again this Thursday when the collection arrives on counters.

Shh! Don’t tell El Hub. 🙂

If you’ve ever tried any of the older MAC Mineralize Eye Shadows, these are different. MAC reformulated them, and while I still love the old school formula, this new one takes the cake. MAC stepped up their game, creating a product that’s basically everything I ever wanted in a powder shadow. Silky soft, they apply like butter on toast, depositing ample color and blending like a dream. Shoot, the colors almost blend themselves! — and so far today they’ve lasted from my first cup of Irish breakfast tea all the way through dinner.

If you had fallout trubs with the older Mineralize Eye Shadows ending up on your cheeks or beneath your eyes (sometimes I did too), I think these adhere WAY better to skin.
