Brand Spotlight: Urban Decay

June 3rd, 2015 by Karen 18 Comments

Urban Decay

When I think of Urban Decay, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t nakedness or bright colors…

It’s grass.

Because when I visited their Southern California offices a few years ago (and had a major fangirl moment when I met Wende Zomnir IN THE FLESH!!), I was tripping out over how the floors in their bathrooms looked like grass…

I mean, if there’s anything that could give you a good idea of what a makeup brand is really like, it’s having grass-printed floors in the bathroom.

It’s been interesting to watch the brand grow from a small niche makeup line (remember when you could only find their nail polishes at, like, Urban Outfitters?) into a major makeup player, and now with L’Oreal backing them, it seems like they’re doing a lot of different things and expanding their line quicker than you can say “Perversion Pencil.”

Case in point: UD’s latest launches. Here’s a list of some of the recent Urban Decay coverage on MBB…

They sure have been expanding their line recently! Do you think maybe they’re moving to stand alone stores, like MAC?

I say kudos to them for making a ton of well-received products lately, like their new concealer and their blushes.

I think there’s something for everyone in their line, and now all they need is a makeup brush line.

I’m a UD junkie for life! I remember my first purchase from them, eyeshadow and Lip Gunk lipgloss both in the shade Asphyxia because it perfectly matched my dress for Junior Prom in 2001! The following Christmas I got one of the first Face Cases and I remember I wore it everyday for the rest of my senior year.

Anyway, I’ve amassed quite the UD collection (I have all of those giant Book of Shadows, including Alice In Wonderland and the 15th Anniversary palette plus many more) and I really love how they’ve grown up and expanded over the years!

Urban Decay is a brand I’ve usually stayed away from. I always have the feeling I’m too old or not cool enough to wear it. However, I did get their Sheer Revolution Lipstick in Slowburn this spring and I’m really loving it. I like a nice sheer red or poppy for summer and a good amount of pigmentation like UD offers is essential.

I don’t use much UD at all! Just the All Nighter setting spray! I’ve purchased their eye shadows in the past, and the 24/7 pencil liners.

The UDPP does not work on my lids. Nars Pro Prime for life!

I am essentially OBSESSED with Urban Decay. Love. Smitten. It is ridiculous. I have a stupid amount of their makeup. I desperately want them to re-release Gash as an eye shadow. I put all the colors of the Electric palette on my cat. Today I am wearing Dive Bar, some neutrals from Naked 1, and a few pencils. LOVE.

I wear UD Whiskey liner almost exclusively, thanks to you. Meaning you turned me on to the 24/7 liners, not that you’re the cause of my boring-ness. HAHA! I still have all the other colors from the Jackpot collection but I fell so in love with Whiskey that it’s always what I reach for. 🙂

Hmm.. y’know, now that I think about it, I do have quite a bit of UD makeup! I love their 24/7 pencils and their eyeshadows. For some reason, they make me feel just a little punk-rock – and I love that. Plus the eye products generally deliver a lot of punch (read: pigment & staying power), which I also love.

I haven’t tried a single UD product yet, but I purchased a 24/7 glide on pencil recently and am excited to try it.

I bought my first UD products in 2005, and have been wearing it consistently since then! Right now I use Naked 3 (my naked 2 palette shattered a few weeks ago, and I’m too lazy to try to fix the broken shadows), Rapture lipstick, and about five different 24/7 pencils. My favorite is the rather underrated Underground! I used the Naked Foundation for a while but went back to Face and Body. I probably will grab Naked Smoky and that Ozone pencil!

I am crushing hard on the UD Perversion Mascara – love how full & long my lashes look but it does run when my eyes water from the wind.;( I also have 2 of their 24hr eyeliners which I luv and shall be adding another from sephora tonight.. AND I have a huge sample of the ‘original sin’ eyeshadow primer which I’m in love with…

I’m loving UD lately! I think it started with the Naked 2 palette and the eyeshadow primer. Then they got me with the Revolution lipsticks. I’m currently loving the high color lip glosses.

I’ve been wearing UD since I was about 18 or 19. What attracted me to the line initially was the bright and different eyeshadow colors. I love that they still have that and do basics that are work or party ready. I also really love that most everything that they make has staying power and won’t come off until I wash it off.

    I love by UD:
~Naked on the Run – seriously awesome multitasking palette and worth every penny. It has gotten me through days where I needed to look polished but didn’t want to rummage through a million products to get the look. The eyeshadows, well heck, everything, in the palette are super flattering. I’ve gotten many compliments on the shadows when I wear them.

~UD in Sin – my fave brightening and illuminating Primer Potion.

~UD 24/7 Liners – really love LSD, Delinquent, and Perversion. Junkie and Woodstock are good funky colors.

~Love the duochrome shadows like Asphyxia and Fishnet. They are running faves of mine.

I love Urban Decay, and wear something of theirs almost every day. I like their huge colored eyeliner range. Most of the products are really good to stellar. They’re cruelty free.

Favorites: 24/7 eyeliner pencils (Perversion is my HG black eyeliner; Roach is my HG brown; Mars is stunning; all the purples); their purple eyeshadows – they do great purples; The Electric Palette (I wish they’d do an Electric 2); The Pulp Fiction collection; the new Afterglow blushes; Naked on the Run; Naked Basics, Revolution and Sheer Revolution lipsticks.

I love it when they do edgy colors and packaging. I wish they would release more along those lines. I don’t mind them doing the Naked line, and I quite like some of it. The summer blush, shadow and lipgloss offerings were great, and I hope we see more soon.

When I was younger I wore Lancome & Chanel makeup, at the time I worked for Emporium and I got a discount. After I stopped working for them I used what I had left and switched to drug store makeup. A few years ago drug store makeup prices started to creep up so I “discovered” Sephora. UD was the first high makeup I purchased in a long time. I own Naked, Naked2, Naked3, Naked Basics, Naked Basics2, Shattered & Anarchy Face Cases, several 24/7 eyeliners, Naked foundation (not a huge fan of this) Revolution lipstick in Streak & Turn On. Turn On is “my” shade, whenever I wear it people ask me about it and compliment me. It’s just a regular pink lipstick but it really works well with my complexion. I just started buying MAC products again (I bought a bunch when I got married but that’s another story)

I used to buy UD but then around 4-5 years ago they announced that they were going to sell their products in China, which of course meant that there was going to be animal testing involved and hence there was a huge backlash. Because of the backlash and people threatening to stop buying their products, UD ultimately decided not to sell in China but it still left a bad taste for me that they were going to sacrifice their mantra of no animal testing for profit and I haven’t bought from them since then.
