Does Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Waterproof Bold Volume Lifting Mascara Pass the Treadmill Test?

March 26th, 2010 by Karen 20 Comments

Deep thoughts from the males of Casa MBB:

  • “You don’t need to wear lipgloss to bed, sweetie.” — El Hub
  • “Meow. Mrrrroooow.” (Translated: “Woman, you must provide gravy for me to pose for you. Check the contract.”) — Tabs
  • “I just don’t see how wearing mascara while you’re on the treadmill is a necessary thing.” — El Hub

There are soooo many things dudes don’t get — like why women need 10 pairs of black shoes (HELLO!), or why it’s completely rational to wear mascara during a workout.

What can I say? I feel less Uncle Fester if I’m huffing and puffing with a lil’ bit of eye makeup on. 🙂

For today’s treadmill sesh I wore Estee Lauder’s new Sumptuous Bold Waterproof Mascara ($18.50, available in brown and black).

Aboard the treadmill

Sumptuous Waterproof (I have it in black) totally kills when it comes to lifting the lashes and keeping a curl; eyes look w i d e and awake with it on.

More reasons to like Estee Lauder Sumptuous Waterproof Bold Volume…

  • Deep, rich color
  • Smooth, non-clumping formula
  • Lashes feel soft and light, not crispy or heavy (dontcha hate that?), with it on
  • With a good eye makeup remover like Bliss Lid + Lash Wash, removal is a cinch; no scrubbing neccessary

And I gotta give props to Sumptuous Waterproof for resisting smudging and flaking.

To see how well it performs in the waterproof department, I put it to the test today, popping on three layers before I went running on the treadmill.

With highly saturated purples, bronzes, teals and gold, Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess summer collection salutes makeup mavens who love intense, rich color by thoroughly bringing on the bling (on counters now; check out some swatches here).

We took a look at Aqua Flash Liquid Eyeshadow and Orchid Lip Gloss earlier this month, and here are few more items from the collection.

Bronze Goddess Liquid Eyeshadows

If you wear warm shades well, the Molton Bronze, Violet and Sand Shimmer Liquid Eyeshadows ($17.50 each) might tickle your fancy.

MBBTV #6: Addicted to Dior for Summer 2010

March 19th, 2010 by Karen 15 Comments

It’s dreadfully pricey, but there are things I really like about Dior’s summer 2010 stuff, particularly the Crush Glow palette and pseudo-luggage tags.

Those tags hella make me wanna shoop…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I’m thinking about also keeping videos on Vimeo because I love their site (but I HOPE they stop charging for HD). You can also click one of these big buttons to watch on either site…

The Brow Benefits of Tweezerman for Benefit Beauty Tools

March 18th, 2010 by Karen 36 Comments

Do you remember my affair with Raul? What a terrible mistake… Obviously, we weren’t right for each other. He knew it; I knew it, but when it ended, Benefit was there for me. Like a trusted friend, they had my back (and my brows). 🙂

That’s because Benefit knows brows. Their kick-ass brow kits, Brow Bar services and new partnership with Tweezerman promise to keep millions of eyebrows out of trouble.

Tweezerman for Benefit

The new four-piece Tweezerman for Benefit collection offers tools to tweeze, shape and curl your way out of beastly brow/lash oblivion!

New Dolce and Gabbana Makeup for Summer 2010: The Midnight Bloom Collection

March 18th, 2010 by Karen 35 Comments

Smooth Eyeshadow Quad in Fabulous, $59

What’s up, sunshines? I love spring and all, but I wouldn’t mind fast forwarding to summer, summer, summertime and the release of Dolce and Gabbana’s upcoming Midnight Bloom summer makeup collection.

Dolce & Gabbana doesn’t do drugstore, and this luxurious eight-piece release for eyes, lips, face and nails costs a pretty penny, but lovers of beachy greens, corals, pinks and blues might find it hard to resist.

I haven’t tracked down the exact release date yet (lemme know if you find it), but I’ll update you when I do.

Take a quick look at these promo picks, and holla at me in the comments if anything catches your eye. 🙂

Honey, Lancome’s Juicy Tubes Are Turning 10!

March 17th, 2010 by Karen 31 Comments

Good golly, where does the time go? I remember when Lancome’s Juicy Tubes were brand spankin’ new, yet now they’re turning 10.

10!

Lancome’s releasing a limited-edition collection of four glosses to celebrate the big one-oh, but they probably could have tweaked the name just a bit…

Are ya ready? Take a deep breath and say it with me. They’re called the Juicy Tubes 100% Natural Origins Ultra Shiny Lip Glosses.

Whew! What a mouthful. 🙂

“Hey, girl, have you tried those new Juicy Tubes 100% Natural Origins Ultra Shiny Lip Glosses?” Just rolls off the tongue, LOL!

Luckily, from the color I tried today, they taste damn good. This afternoon I wore Rose Pretty, a sheer reddish pink, and danced around my living room to Biggie’s Juicy… “It was all a dream, I used to read Word Up Magazine!” Could. Not. Stop. Licking. My. Lips.

MBBTV #5: Urban Decay Eden Eyeshadow Primer Potion

March 16th, 2010 by Karen 60 Comments

Um … in case you were wondering, I *do* shower and change on a daily basis, 🙂 despite the fact that I’m wearing the same black shirt and gold necklace in this video, LOL! What I did was record a few videos at the same time.

Episode 5 links and notes

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Eden ($18)
  • Previous look at Eden on MBB

Note: I checked the ingredient list of both of the products, and it *does* appear as though UD changed the formula.

May Contain: CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491/77492/77499 (Iron Oxides).

Ingredients in Original Primer Potion: Isododecane, Talc, Cyclopentasiloxane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Trihydroxystearin, Triethylhexanoin, Isopropyl Lanolate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Stearate, Propylene Carbonate, Phenoxyethanol, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Methicone, Isobutylparaben. May Contain: Mica, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride).

About video, I’m really starting to have fun with them again, spending too much time as usual. El Hub wonders what I’m up to sometimes when I’m in my office and talking with the camera running at midnight, ha!

Do you guys have a preference between YouTube, Vimeo or another video site? I’ve been partial to Vimeo because I like the design of their player (pink!) and the site itself. I also really dig the kinds of videos they attract (lots of indie creative pros and artsy stuff), but YouTube doesn’t charge for HD plays. Vimeo does, which kinda blows.

I’m still going to post videos on both sites (here’s my YouTube channel and Vimeo page), but I may just embed them with for a while.

YouTube veterans, can you suggest any tips/tricks or makeup gurus I should subscribe to? I’m a YouTube noob. I’m learning as I go along. Thanks in advance. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen
