Saturday Surfing

April 24th, 2010 by Karen 13 Comments

Hallelujar (which is like hallelujah on steroids), ladies! It’s the weekend. 🙂 And I’ve been really looking forward to this one because 1) I needed the extra sleep, 2) El Hub doesn’t have to go to work and 3) I’m driving home to see my parents tomorrow for my dad’s birthday bash.

What’s shakin’ out yonder way? Anything new to report? The headline here reads: “It’s almost like summer!” You’d swear this was California judging by how sunny it is today. Of course, I feel like a bum because I spent the morning cooped up inside, but it wasn’t my fault. Benefit Spiked Punch gloss and MAC Coral Crepe Paint Pot were holding me captive…

The boards are waxed and I’m ready to hit the waves, girls. Care to do some Saturday Surfing with me? Hang ten!

Random bright spots

Saturday Surfing

April 17th, 2010 by Karen 18 Comments

Good mawnin’, home skillets. How was your night? 🙂 I can’t even begin to describe how happy I am right now because I actually have nothing I have to do today. That’s because my to-do list is blank, yay! It rarely works out this way, but somehow I managed to finish all of my weekend chores early, as in last week, which means there will be no cleaning of toilets, folding of clothes or brushing of tabby cats (a chore indeed) today, huzzah!

And THAT means I can just chill here with y’all, which makes everything, even the taste of this hot tea, so much better.

Oh, here’s something completely random that I know some of the other journalists and writers out there might appreciate. The AP finally caved!

Now, because I like to share the Web sites websites I surf early on Saturday mornings…

Random bright spots

  • What can orange concealer do for you? Check out this exploration of carrot-hued correctors — Bella Sugar
  • Hallelujar, praise ye gods! Flared pants are coming back this fall! — The Cut
  • Do Tokidoki’s Brillante Glitter Eyeliner deliver the goods? — Temptalia
  • Did you know Jamba Juice has a secret menu? — Divine Caroline
  • 15 photos you won’t believe aren’t Photoshopped — Oddee
  • Enter to win a Zac Posen for Target Dress before it hits stores — The Lancome Blog
  • The battle of the most AWESOME THING EVER! — Most Awesometthing Ever
  • Blondes have more fun… and earn more money, too (drat!) — Beaut.ie
  • Two words: pure genius — Kitteh Roulette
  • Do you feel lucky? Enter to win a New York City shopping spree, a guided tour of the Marie Claire offices and meet a Project Runway designer — Secrets of the Runway

New in beauty

  • With the NARS Jet Setter Eye Kit ($52), you get a lash curler, Nuits Blanches Stylo Liner and a Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara
  • I’m kinda loving the print on Sisley’s Pyto-Poudre Compact ($109)… There’s a moisturizing, mattifying powder inside
  • I wait ALL YEAR LONG for Fekkai Summer Hair!! Nordstrom.com already has some of the items listed: Marine Clean Detox Shampoo ($23), Beachcomber Leave-In Conditioner ($23) and Marine Summer Hair Beach Waves ($23)
  • Sephora now carries bronzers and self-tanners by St. Tropez ($30-40)
  • I love how industrial this jug of Supergoop! All-Over Everyday UV Pump ($68) looks

A girl can never have enough shoes…

Tetris and Pac Man invade New York!

Been listening to this song 24/7 for days…

What are you doing right now? I mean at this very instant! 🙂

Saturday Surfing

April 10th, 2010 by Karen 15 Comments

What’s up, weekenders? How’s your Saturday coming along? Are you doing anything fun? So far today I’ve gone to breakfast (thanks for the Hamilton Cafe reco, Marisol!), took care of some bills, played with Tabs, and now I’m snapping as many product pictures as I can before the sun goes down. We had great light here this afternoon, so I’m trying to take advantage of it.

Do you have time for a little break? 🙂 Grab your mouse; let’s go surfing!

Random bright spots

  • Is it time to spring clean your closet? — College Fashion
  • How to make a scent linger longer (without overdoing it) — Daily Beauty Reporter Blog
  • Oh, hon, my hair wants Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment — We Heart This
  • Cheaper than getting your hair did: Bella road tests Lady Gaga’s Coke Can Curlers — Bella Sugar
  • Christine explores Chanel’s Les Pop Ups Polishes — Temptalia
  • The Benefit gals are breaking down the diff between Eye Bright and High Brow — The Secret Life of a Benefit Girl

New in beauty

  • Benefit’s Bright Lights Big City Set ($48) has everything it takes to look bright, beautiful and sexy
  • Colorful? Absolutely. Practical? Hmm… Have you seen Shu Uemura’s Gem Glam Flawless Glow Powder ($55)?
  • Kim Kardashian’s Sephora Gift Set ($55) comes with her perfume and a makeup palette to dupe her signature smokey eyes
  • Revlon says their Grow Luscious Mascara ($8) will make your lashes grow longer (in so many words)
  • Sephora’s Color Artist Lipstick Palette ($32) comes with 15 shades in a sleek, travel-friendly case

What a beautiful interpretation of one of my favorite INXS songs… Yes, that’s Beck. 🙂

Watching this makes me hyper…

OH, HELL YAH! — Aiden’s baAAAaack!

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday. Oh, Tabs is on the rampage right now… He’s been giving me his “Feed me some gravy, bitches!” face because he finished the last of his Fancy Feast tuna in gravy last night. All he’s had to eat since then has been Science Diet, and he’s none too pleased.

Sorry, cat. We all learn to deal with disappointment sooner or later. Today was just your time. 🙂

MAC Cosmetics Partners with Makeup and Beauty Blog

April 1st, 2010 by Karen 208 Comments

Ladies, if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, you probably know about my love for MAC Cosmetics. I’ve been a fan of theirs for years (my very first post was Barbie Loves MAC!).

And being such a devoted fan, I’ve been dying to tell you about a special project I’ve been working on FOREVER, but because of legal hoopla and various other contractual shenanigans I haven’t been been able to announce anything until now.

Starting this month, I’ll be splitting my time between this blog and a brand new site called MAC-Up and Beauty Blog.

In a nutshell, it’s going to be a MAC beauty blog with a quirky MBB spin. I’ll be giving you advance looks and swatches of new MAC collections, backstage access to MAC events and the latest tips and tricks from our favorite MAC makeup artists.

It also means I’ll be traveling a little bit more, but things will remain business as usual here on the OG MBB, where I’ll still post plenty of non-MAC beauty reviews, news and more than enough Tabs to last a lifetime. 🙂

MAC-Up and Beauty Blog won’t go live until mid-month, but MAC wants to get this party started, so they’re sponsoring a HUGE giveaway today on the blog.

The first 10,000 readers who friend the new MAC-Up and Beauty Blog Facebook page will receive a free tube of MAC Nymphette. This shimmery, peachy pink gloss is my all-time fave for smokey eyes.

If you’re interested, click here to sign up.

Karen
