These Jordana Easyshine Glossy Lip Colors Look Like They Should Cost More Than $2

October 10th, 2011 by Karen 36 Comments

Wearing Jordana Easyshine Glossy Lip Color in Raspberry

Like the Two-Buck Chuck of the hybrid gloss/lipstick world, these $1.99 Jordana Easyshine Glossy Lip Colors could be giving department store brands conniptions.

Remember the highfalutin $34 Dolce & Gabbana hybrids we looked at earlier this fall? Like those pricier pretties, these bargain basement beauties feel soft, slick and super moisturizing on my lips, and while slightly less pigmented than their more expensive counterparts, their shiny sheer-to-medium coverage should still turn heads (especially when spotters hear about their fantabulous price).

A gal could get all 12 available shades — Sugar Plum, Berry Colada, Grape-Tini, Raspberry, Cotton Candy, Pink Lemonade, Watermelon Juice, Sweet Strawberry, Mango Delight, Fresh Melon, Brown Sugar and Sugar Cookie — and leave the store having spent just about $24.

Sweet!

Just like these flavors and scents. Each one tastes and smells like its name suggests (another nice touch). The flavors and fragrances seem a little strong to me at first, but thankfully they fade within a few minutes.

The Bobbi Brown Black Ruby Sparkle Eyeshadow Palette Takes It Easy on Eyes and Glitter

October 10th, 2011 by Karen 44 Comments

bobbi brown black ruby sparkle

Do you remember the last time you wore glitter? Hey now, your answer better not be, “I don’t do glitter.” And did I just see you roll your eyes? 🙂

Even if you’ve never been a glitter girl before, or if you have but just haven’t had the time lately to rock it often and well, Bobbi Brown’s new Black Ruby Sparkle Eye Palette ($45) contends that it doesn’t have to take a lot of time (or shimmer) to sparkle.

The limited edition eyeshadow palette hails from Bobbi’s new holiday collection and comes with glittery powder eyeshadows in shades of pink, silver, ruby and onyx.

Don’t worry too much about going overboard with this particular breed of glitter. Bobbi generally takes a restrained approach to makeup, one that won’t leave you looking like a dancer in a Vegas revue (although, I must say, despite wearing pounds of makeup, those ladies usually look smokin’ hot). You get just enough color and sparkle for brighter eyes with a subtle glow.

Working On My Fitness

October 10th, 2011 by Karen 25 Comments

Picked up a couple new workout DVDs from Jillian Michaels recently. I find it funny how she’s pointing in the pic on the right, like she’s poking my muffin top, haha! I haven’t tried either of them yet (truth: I haven’t mustered up the courage yet), but when I do I’ll let you know if they’re any good.

Got any good fitness DVD recs for me? I need to SWEAT!

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Oct. 10

October 10th, 2011 by Karen 115 Comments

  • You might be wondering, “So what the heck is this Monday Poll thing anyway?”
Well, it isn’t much of a poll. It’s more just a constantly evolving (devolving?), somewhat random list of questions I’ve been putting out to readers every Monday morning for the past three years, which I guess makes this somewhere around Vol. 189. I’ve always enjoyed reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you enjoy reading mine.
  1. Mood:
  2. I’m still a little groggy this morning, but I had a nice, relaxing weekend. I need my tea to hurry up and work its magic, though, so go, caffeine, go!

  3. A children’s book that brings back fond memories for you?
  4. Gosh, there are so many. One of my favorites was The Very Hungry Caterpillar; I remember my mom reading it to me all the time. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Charlotte’s Web and The Giving Tree were some of my other faves.

  5. If your life were fictionalized and made into a movie, what genre would it be?
  6. Sci-fi 4ever! Or maybe something with vampires.

  7. Are you saving up to buy anything?
  8. New office furniture, namely a larger desk, and a dining room set. Yep, after two years living here I still don’t have any furniture in my dining room (we eat at a coffee table on the living room floor). Not exciting, I know.

  9. Where was your first kiss?
  10. It was… I honestly can’t remember. But I guess it was pretty lame if my selective amnesia is kicking in, LOL!

  11. A book you started reading but never finished?
  12. Game of Thrones. I made it through about three quarters of it last summer but then couldn’t bring myself to finish it after [SPOILER ALERT! STOP READING HERE IF YOU DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!] Ned lost his head.

    It broke my heart.

  13. Do you have a good luck charm?
  14. Nah, not really, but I do believe that randomness and chance are a part of life.

  15. Your favorite place to grab cheap eats?
  16. Lately, Chipotle, even though the way their menu is written drives me nuts. Why do they write, “cheese OR sour cream?” when you can have both?

  17. Which celebrities or other famous people have you seen in real life?
  18. I walked by (my mouth agape) Liz Phair at the airport in Las Vegas once, and last summer I spotted Carrie Anne Moss (Trinity!) buying gourmet cheese at a market in Vancouver. Oh, and this was kinda cool: a few years ago El Hub and I stood in line right behind George Lucas at the movies. I forget which movie it was, but he lives here in Marin County. We were both trying to play it cool and didn’t want to bother him, but I’m sure we looked like freaks. El Hub still regrets not telling George how much he likes the Clone Wars cartoon.

  19. Weekly goals:
  20. Be brave in all things.

Hey, hey, babe. 🙂 It’s another Monday.

How was your weekend? Did you get any time to relax? I’m happy to report that I spent a number of hours reading and recharging my batteries on the couch. If you have a minute, please say hi and let me know how you’re doing today by filling out the Monday Poll.

  • To complete the Monday Poll, just copy the following list, and paste it with your answers in the comments.

1. Mood:
2. A children’s book that brings back fond memories for you?
3. If your life were fictionalized and made into a movie, what genre would it be?
4. Are you saving up to buy anything?
5. Where was your first kiss?
6. A book you started reading but never finished?
7. Do you have a good luck charm?
8. Your favorite place to grab cheap eats?
9. Which celebrities or other famous people have you seen in real life?
10. Weekly goals:

You take it easy this week, okay? No stress allowed!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Sundays with Tabs the Cat, Makeup and Beauty Blog Mascot, Vol. 160

October 9th, 2011 by Karen 21 Comments

With the holidays coming up, Tabs has been in a festive mood. This week he worked on some fun kitty modeling campaigns for Bobbi Brown, Essie, NYX, Bumble and Bumble and Sonia Kashuk. His favorite was the job for Bobbi Brown. They actually held a real party on the set with a catnip-filled cake, strawberries and cat-safe chocolate frosting (Tabs brought me home a slice).

If you’re interested, here are the highlights from his kitty modeling portfolio this week. 🙂

Now I Gotta Cut Loose (Footloose), with These Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Oh La Luxe Swatches

October 9th, 2011 by Karen 29 Comments

bare minerals oh la luxe

I won’t pretend that I didn’t try to fit Tabs into the case that comes with the new Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Oh La Luxe holiday kit ($79, available now at Sephora and also online), but you know…husky.

Here are those swatches I mentioned I’d do. Not really up to a whole lot today. So far I went for a run, cleaned up a little, started reading a new book (All These Things I’ve Done, by Gabrielle Zevin), and now I’m craving pumpkin gelato and trying to think of a way to sweet talk El Hub into getting me some.

Yup, action packed day. 🙂

How about you? What are you up to this afternoon?

What I’m Reading, 10.09.11

October 9th, 2011 by Karen 13 Comments

It’s a young adult fiction kind of weekend. 🙂

I started Gabrielle Zevin’s All These Things I’ve Done last night and couldn’t put it down!

Next up: Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, by Ransom Riggs (that name’s too good to be real!).
