Don’t Gloss Over Lavender Without Giving Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Crocus a Try

July 27th, 2012 by Karen 21 Comments

I totally get it if you’re kinda freaked out about the idea of purple lip gloss. I was too. I used to think, gaudy much? But then I slipped one on and completely changed my tune.

The right lavender can look très flattering and still “natural with a kick.”

One to consider: Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Crocus ($14), a sheer, creamy lavender with a whisper of shine.

If you haven’t tried the Lip Butter Glazes yet, give ’em a kiss when you can. I think Korres did a really good job on these. They’re total A+ products.

The one I’m wearing tonight, Crocus, starts as a highly pigmented, can’t-miss color, but it slowly wears down to a soft lavender pink.

Cheeks Shine, Naturally, Wearing Korres Cheek Butter in Chara Crimson

June 6th, 2012 by Karen 17 Comments

Wearing Korres Cheek Butter in Chara Crimson

Flaky at breakfast, equal parts dry and oily by lunch, and then it’s “Welcome to Shine Central” by dinner.

My cheeks are so fickle! (How fickle are they?)

They’re fickle like a teenage girl (been there, done that). Thankfully, unlike parents who just don’t understand, my pot of Korres Cheek Butter in Chara Crimson ($25) totally gets my moody skin.

We hit it off when we met for swatches at Sephora a couple weeks back. It was just me, Chara and the other two available shades. They were so thick and creamy, and packed with pigment to spare, that it didn’t take long to tell there was something special about these.

We even started hanging out. 🙂

Berry pink Chara Crimson, the darkest of the three shades, really appeals to my lazy side. All it takes is a couple swipes to apply and blend it on my cheeks, but that’s not even the coolest part. I also love how it latches on to my skin and won’t let go for nothin’, lasting all day long without emphasizing any dry patches, flakes, pores or fine lines.

Whether I wear it by itself on bare skin or atop tinted moisturizer or liquid foundation, Chara Crimson always pinches my cheeks, so to speak, but in a way that still looks natural (no clown cheeks here).

It’s gotta be the shine.

Maybe that’s the secret sauce. It’s super subtle — just the quietest hint of a glow — but I think it’s why the finish looks so natural.

A Thursday Beauty Break With Starbucks and Summer Makeup From Tokidoki, Korres, Smashbox, Laura Mercier and More

May 24th, 2012 by Karen 50 Comments

thursday beauty break chai latte

Tabs is quite the taskmaster, as you well know, but every once in a while, about as often as a solar eclipse, he takes pity on his lowly assistant and grants her (me) a break.

Today was one of those days. I was given a break from my official feline assistant duties and two hours of company sanctioned “me time,” or “meow time,” as Tabs likes to say.

He’s a big fan of meow time. 🙂

Behold the face of a kitty dictator!

Today, I decided to spend my meow time on a beauty break — ya know, some noms, a little window shopping and, of course, makeup.

Join me! It’ll be fun.

First order of business: Starbucks. Grab a seat, and I’ll get us some tasty beverages. Gotta fuel up before we browse.

Where should we start? How about Sephora? There’s one just down the street.

Don’t worry about spending money. We’re just going to look around. Promise.

Well…unless we come across a completely awesome life-changing color. In that case, all bets are off.

Lately at Sephora, I’ve been starting in the Tokidoki section. The cheerful packaging gets me every time, like this new limited edition Love From London Palette…

Isn’t it cute!? Eight eyeshadows, a bronzer and a keychain for $42. That’s not bad. And the pans look pretty big, too.

I like the mix of neutrals and blues — oh, but they swatch pretty sheer…

I think I might like it more for the cute factor than anything else. Let’s keep moving…

Ah, some new stuff from Korres!

Does Korres Vanilla Guava Showergel Smell Like Macarons? Of Korres

December 18th, 2010 by Karen 20 Comments

Korres Vanilla Guava Showergel

I tore through that box of macarons in record time, but their spirit lives on in the Korres Vanilla Guava Showergel ($19.50).

I’ll go out on a limb and assume that Korres didn’t have my favorite vanilla flavored cookies in mind when they cooked up this moisturizing gel. This newest member of the company’s luxuriously bubbly Showergel line is made from (a very specific) 90.2% natural ingredients. Korres claims the wheat proteins and aloe in the product keep skin moisturized while vitamins C, E and the mineral zinc help reduce visible signs of aging. Tabs doesn’t look a day over five…but he thinks it’s cool that this stuff is also cruelty free.

My Skin Is Thirsty for Korres Milk Proteins Foaming Cream Cleanser

November 19th, 2010 by Karen 33 Comments

Vonnie

Written by Vonnie

Blogger Vonnie’s quest to find the best face wash brought her to the subject of today’s guest post, a fabulous foaming force for good. 🙂

Look at that Clarisonic!

I’m somewhat like Goldilocks when it comes to face washes: this one is too foamy and dries out my skin, this one isn’t foamy enough (hellllo, are you there face wash? It’s me, Vonnie!), and, ahhh, the holy grail — this one is JUST RIGHT!

Korres Milk Proteins Foaming Cream Cleanser & the Clarisonic Face BrushWell, I wanted to share my just right face wash with you all: Korres Milk Proteins Foaming Cream Cleanser ($21).

Seriously, this is lush stuff! It starts as a cream in its hygienic bottle, but once squeezed out and mixed with water, it turns into a soft foam. There’s none of that tight skin feel after washing with this, and my skin feels soft DURING the wash as well as after!

I don’t know about the cleansers you’ve used, but with lots of the ones I’ve used my skin can feel like it’s trying to give me an impromptu facelift with how tight it can get! Not the case here. 🙂

I use my Clarisonic Face Brush with it because I find that the brush makes every face washing feel like a trip to the spa. Not to mention, I’m a frequent makeup wearer, and no matter which makeup remover or wipes I use, there’s always brown (foundation) on the brush’s head afterward, so obviously it’s giving me a deep cleanse and washing away the residue that I had no clue was even there!

Goop
See how clean this Clarisonic looks here?

What it removes
You can see from the change in color what the Clarisonic/Korres combo removed…

The Korres Vitamin E 10-Color Pencil Kit Is Worth Writing Home About

November 3rd, 2010 by Karen 46 Comments

korres vitamin e 10 color pencil kit review swatches photos pencil tip closeup

Holy wow! That’s a lot of liners. And they’re full size too!

The pencils in the Korres Limited Edition Vitamin E 10-Color Pencil Kit work out to just $3.25 each ($32.50 for the kit). Of course, all of them are green. 🙁

No, not literally. I mean they’re eco-friendly and 100% natural, according to Korres, made with moisturizing Vitamin E and jojoba oil. And considering that eyeliners this size (standard 0.04 oz. pencils) usually go for $16 apiece, the kit’s one of the best holiday bargains I’ve seen this year so far.

Korres included a wide range of pigmented colors in popular shades from their permanent line…

Korres Lip Butter Glaze Made My Lips Look and Feel Better Today

October 26th, 2010 by Karen 45 Comments

karen from makeup and beauty blog reviews korres lip butter glaze
Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate

Blue skies may have been smiling at me yesterday, but my face of the day left me with lips like the Sahara. My kisser needed TLC today, and Korres Lip Butter Glaze ($14; available in five shades) came to my rescue.

The mad moisturizing, non-sticky formula is surprisingly thin and lightweight, but Korres still found room inside it for a subtle vanilla fragrance, which I like (it is unflavored, though). I put Pomegranate (a pinkish coral) on this morning, and by mid-day my lips already felt and looked a lot better.

Both of the colors I’ve tried, Pomegranate and bright red Wild Rose, could almost pass for Jello from afar (peach and fruit punch, respectively!). They create a semi-transparent, shiny layer of goodness on my lips, ahh… 🙂
