The Clean Coffret Fragrance Set Is More Than Simply Fresh

November 24th, 2009 by Karen 33 Comments

Clean Coffret Set Review in box

Are you the kind of girl who delights in wearing a different fragrance every day of the week? Clean, a fragrance line known for their light scents and simple aesthetic, sure hopes so. Their new Coffret Set ($65) includes four of their signature scents in 1-oz bottles of eau de parfum.

Clean Coffret Set Review Shower Fresh

Almost lighter than air, they make me float away on a fragrance cloud, and I feel like I can wear them anywhere, whether I’m just lounging around the house, going out to dinner with El Hub or attending a function for work.

Despite their lightness of being, each one lasts a good long time on my skin (about six hours). Even though they share similar citrus and floral notes and have the same just-out-of-the-shower vibe, they’re different enough to be distinct.

Clean Coffret Set Review Simply Soap

Speaking of variety, Clean Coffret oozes with possibilities. I like to layer them (although they also wear well by themselves), and my current crush involves starting with a layer of Warm Cotton, then adding layer of Shower Fresh topped with Simply Soap.

By itself, Shower Fresh reminds me of a pristine tropical waterfall; Clean is like crisp grapefruit, and Warm Cotton brings to mind fresh laundry, set outside to dry in the sun.

Lancome’s Deluxe Brush Set and Fashion Case Is Like Little Purple Kisses

November 23rd, 2009 by Karen 59 Comments

Lancome-Deluxe-Brush-Set-Expert-Collection-powder-brush

Yes, it’s pricey with short little handles (I prefer ’em long), and the giant plastic gems on the clutch look *hella* cheesy, but DAGNABBIT if these brush heads aren’t softer than a baby’s kiss.

Lancome’s Deluxe Brush Set ($60), one of two Lancome limited edition brush sets for the holidays, makes me wanna shoop!

From left to right: powder brush, foundation brush, domed blending brush, dual-ended concealer/angled liner brush and flat eyeshadow brush

Deluxe comes with five basic eye and face brushes, complete with a matching clutch. The brushes apply and blend like dreams — good dreams. 🙂 My favorite, the powder brush, feels more luxurious than cashmere against my skin. I’d wear it like a sweater if I could.

Tarte Crown Jewels Lipgloss Multi-Gift Set: A Royal Bargain!

November 23rd, 2009 by Karen 50 Comments

Tarte Crown Jewels Lipgloss Multi Gift Set

Oh, destiny, art thou doomed to repeat thy makeup mistakes?

Every year I stock up on makeup sets under false pretenses, intending to give them away as gifts, but year after year I end up keeping one (or two or three!) for myself.

Never again… Yes, I’ve found a cure!

Tarte’s Crown Jewels Lipgloss Multi-Gift Set ($40) lets me gift unto others while indulging upon myself. 🙂

With 15 glosses spread out among three different sub-sets, there’s more than enough makeup here to satisfy my inner makeup monster (if only for a moment).

Each of the three sub-sets is based on a different color theme (nude, bold and glitter) and comes with five tubes of gloss, with the idea being to keep one set for yourself (hey, I can do that!) and give the other two away.

Genius!

Sonia Kashuk Twist and Shout Kabuki Blush Brush: How Fast Can You Say Magic?

November 18th, 2009 by Karen 26 Comments

sonia kashuk twist and shout

In a perfect world, I’d always have at least 45 minutes to do my makeup. Not because it always takes that long, but because I like being able to take my time and relax.

Unfortunately, the clock doesn’t always cooperate, especially with the holidays approaching fast.

That’s why ’tis the season for makeup shortcuts! 🙂 I’m always looking for makeup time-savers, and one of my new favorites is Sonia Kashuk’s Twist & Shout Kabuki Blush Brush ($13).

Remember Sonia’s Twist of Fate brush set last week? Well, her new kabuki brush models the same twisted faux silver handle, which, like its sisters, broadcasts every smudgy fingerprint (aargh!), a flaw I can easily forgive.

Why?

Baby, you’re much too fast!

Twist & Shout screams! With it I’m able to apply and blend blush in half the time it takes me with a regular blush brush. Fantastic when I don’t have minutes to spare.

Like a wand, this brush exudes magic. When I rest Twist & Shout’s wide and slightly flattened brush head against my cheek, it covers the entire apple — a large swath of cheek! It’s able to blanket almost my entire cheek with a light-to-medium layer of color in just a couple quick swipes.

Tarte Three Carats: Easy Blush, Light Flush

November 16th, 2009 by Karen 33 Comments

Today I came *this close* to chomping down on the cheek stains in Tarte’s Three Carats Set ($25) because they reminded me of Push-Ups pops. Nom, nom, nom! 🙂

One of three new limited-edition makeup gift sets from Tarte, Three Carats comes with three mini-gel blushes decorated in festive silver and rhinestones.

Don’t be fooled by how dark they look in their blingy outfits; they apply super-sheer and natural, despite appearances.

NARS Drop Dead Gorgeous Mini Nail Kit Has You Covered

November 16th, 2009 by Karen 34 Comments

nars drop dead gorgeous

Greetings, gals. I just came across a gift set that might save some butts this holiday season the NARS Drop Dead Gorgeous Mini Nail Kit ($30).

It’s a four-piece mini nail polish kit, one of five for the holidays from NARS. This one comes with four classic colors that I’m guessing even the most finicky nail polish divas will dig.

  • Arabesque: A peachy rose with glitter in a sheer pink base
  • Chinatown: A creamy dark red
  • Candy Darling: A sheer, creamy beige
  • Saratoga: A shimmery golden burgundy

Did Too Faced Lashlight Mascara Light Up My Life?

November 12th, 2009 by Karen 33 Comments

too faced lashlight mascara review

Do you also have those dreams where you look in the mirror and see yourself with Terminator eyes?

Thanks to Lashlight ($25), the newest mascara from Too Faced, “futuristic cyborg” can now be your face of the day.

too faced lashlight mascara review terminator eye

My right eye looks like it’s about to shoot lasers… Spooky!

Something tells me Too Faced didn’t have flesh-covered robots bent on the destruction of womankind when they designed Lashlight, but they still outfitted it with hella upgrades!

I think it should be noted that the LED lights in the base of the wand also make this mascara the *world’s best* for finding your house keys in the dark.

too-faced-lashlight-mascara-review-2

The way Too Faced creative director and founder Jerrod Blandino explains it, he got the idea for the LEDs from the times he struggled to apply mascara to clients in dimly lit (but oh so glam!) locations.

NOTE: I’ve never had to apply mascara in the dark — trapped, say, with a shirtless Ryan Reynolds — but, thanks to Lashlight, I find it comforting to know that I could. 🙂

Too Faced also claims that “liquid crystalline particles” in the Lashlight formula act like microscopic mirrors, brightening up the eyes by reflecting light off and around the lashes.

Hmm…

I’m Seeing Stars: Sonia Kashuk’s Starry Eyes Palette for Holiday 2009

November 12th, 2009 by Karen 38 Comments

If you’re a budget-lovin’ babe who wears cool-toned shadows well, Sonia Kashuk’s got your back. Her new Starry Eyes Palette ($15) for holiday 2009 comes with six cool-toned powder eyeshadows in a mix of glitters and matte.

sonia kashuk starry eyes silver frame eye palette closeup

Exactly what’s inside?

  • A shimmery brown with glitter
  • Shimmery beige with glitter
  • Shimmery taupe with glitter (fans of MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow, this shade looks like Satin Taupe’s glittery cousin)
  • A matte brown
  • Matte white
  • Matte taupe

I’ve been going through a glitter renaissance of late, and the glitter shadows in this palette are hitting all my right notes. You know how some glittery shadows are just too sheer? How all you can see sometimes is the glitter (but no color)? Well, these aren’t like that at all. All three deliver respectable pigmentation — a nice surprise for gals on Team Glitter.

Speaking of the glitter, I expected it to feel gritty here based on how chunky the bits look in their pans.

But that wasn’t the case. In fact, the particles appear fine — just right, in fact — once they’re applied.

It adds up to a very refined glitter look, if there is such a thing. 🙂
