Are There Any Products You Wish You Could Find Dupes for But So Far Haven’t Been Able To Find?

November 13th, 2013 by Karen 59 Comments

I love Becca Cabrera
That’s Becca Cabrera along my lower lash lines… LOVE IT!

Just one (that I can think of right now) — Becca’s Cabrera Liner.

MAN! It was a limited edition dual-tipped liner from 2012’s Balearic Love collection. It has a gorgeous dark chocolate bronzy violet on one end and a warm reddish bronzy brown on the other. I’ve looked and looked and just haven’t been able to find anything quite like it.

PLEASE, if you know of a dupe for it, I beg you, let me know.

I have three backups (yes, I like it that much) — well, four if you count the one lurking somewhere lost in my hella messy office — but the day I finish that last one will be a dark day filled with many glittery tears…

I’ve tried to concoct something similar mixing different liners and have gotten pretty close, but it would be so much easier to just find a dupe (or encourage Becca to rerelease it, hint-hint).

If you happen to know of a dupe for Cabrera or anything else mentioned in the comments, chime in. Help a fellow huntress out. 🙂

How about you? Are there any products you wish beyond reason you could find dupes for but haven’t been able to yet? You never know. Perhaps a dupe exists…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day.

Light Just Loves BECCA Rose Gold Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed

October 17th, 2013 by Karen 19 Comments

Becca Rose Gold
Wearing the new BECCA Rose Gold Shimmering Skin Perfector ($38) on my upper cheekbones

Three reasons to FREAK THE EFF OUT when you meet BECCA’s latest highlighter, the new $38 Shimmering Skin Perfector in Rose Gold…

Becca Rose Gold
Super cute pan!

1. The geometric design on the pan

So modern… So elegant…. I almost couldn’t bear to touch it with my finger the first time.

Becca Rose Gold
Don’t you want to dive right in?

2. The gorgeous rosy gold color

What is this 1849 again? The start of another gold rush? 🙂 The pan really does look like it’s made from rose gold, doesn’t it?

It also makes skin glow, but not in that disco ball/oily way. I like this glow a lot.

You Glow, Girl! Creamy, Luminous Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Powder in Moonstone

August 9th, 2013 by Karen 24 Comments

Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed
Thank you, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone… Now if I could only wake up looking like this, LOL!

I bet Ryan Gosling would notice when you were wearing the new Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector (because he’s dreamy like that!!), but odds are most people wouldn’t.

The luminizing face and cheek powder isn’t really one of those products that grabs you by the eyeballs and won’t let go, like
Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain Lipstick in Madame Batifole, which prompts peeps to cross busy streets to ask, “GUUURRRL, what’s on your lips!?”

Ya know what, though? That’s why I like it. 🙂

Moonstone gets a different kind of attention. It’s subtle, like a good perfume. Similar to when dudes wear flat-front pants pants instead of pleats, it’s not necessarily a dramatic change, but it’s a SERIOUS UPGRADE.

It’s something I’d wear when I want luminous, glowing skin that doesn’t look hella greasy.

Becca Moonstone Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed
Moonstone’s one of three new Shimmering Skin Perfectors available now exclusively at Sephora for $38 each.

But don’t freak out the first time you swatch this shimmery yellow gold. I should warn you — it looks crazy shiny at first, but once you buff it out, ooh, baby! It’s like late afternoon sun on your cheeks…

And get this — Moonstone is also kind to pores and fine lines.

I should know. I have both! 🙂 And when I wear it on my face/cheeks, I barely notice either.

The most similar products I can think of are the Ambient Powders by Hourglass, but Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfectors have a different texture.

BECCA Belle Époque Ultimate Crème Eyeliner Keeps a Lined Eye on the Future With a Purple Nod to the Past

March 26th, 2013 by Karen 13 Comments

BECCA Belle Epoque Ultimate Creme Eyeliner
Wearing BECCA’s new Belle Époque Ultimate Crème Eyeliner ($20 for a 0.08-ounce jar), one of four completely brand-spankin’ new Crème Eyeliners recently added to BECCA’s permanent collection

I’ll be the first to admit it because it’s totally true. When it comes to purple eye liner, I’m the star of my own personal snooze-fest.

It happens sometimes after 25 or 26 years… That’s how long I’ve been wearing purple eye liner (since about 1987).

I started by sneaking a rogue stick of purple Lancôme liner out of the house with me every day and lining my upper lash lines with it when I got to school (so sneaky!).

Admittedly, I had no idea what I was doing, so I probably looked like Honey Boo Boo on a bad pageant day, but I didn’t care. I loved the stuff. Still do.

So predictable, I know. 🙂 But you know what? Purple liner does great things for brown, green and hazel eyes.

I’ve always loved the look and felt that brown eyes (mine are brown) look so much more chocolatey and delicious when they’re lined with plum.

Lately, the purple liner love o’ my life has been BECCA’s new teeny, tiny jar of Belle Époque (a shout-out to France’s “Beautiful Era,” I presume), a deep, shimmery eggplant cream liner that draws feathery strokes in a single sweep and has a formula that lasts all day long.

Unsung Heroes: BECCA Papaya Beach Tint

February 20th, 2013 by Karen 24 Comments

BECCA Papaya Beach Tint
Wearing BECCA Papaya Beach Tint ($25) on my cheeks and lips, available now at BECCA counters, Sephora stores and online

Just added to my list of “Things I’d Like to Do Someday”: eat a papaya (one of my favorite fruits) at the beach (one of my favorite places).

I got the idea from BECCA’s $25 Beach Tint in Papaya, which of course I’ll be wearing when I eat said papaya at said beach. 🙂

This water-resistant lip and cheek tint is one of the newer batch of Beach Tints launched last fall. Described as a “hot red” by BECCA, I call it a “hot reddish, orangey/coral.” With bad-@ss pigment. Can’t forget that.

I’ve been loving it lately, and not just because of the pigment. It’s also a cinch to apply on cheeks and lips, and all it takes are fingers.

With spring approaching, I’ve been crushing harder than usual on corals in general, and I think Papaya worn as a blush on cheeks pairs purrfectly with bold coral lip colors like Tom Ford’s True Coral and Hourglass Muse.

BECCA Dragonfruit Beach Tint Feeds Dragons, Tints Lips and Cheeks

January 17th, 2013 by Karen 50 Comments

Becca Dragonfruit Beach Tint
Wearing Becca Dragonfruit Beach Tint ($25)

It’s what I feed my dragon, and he lurves it. 🙂

Dragonfruit. I don’t even know what that is. It sounds vaguely Asian and familiar, like something my friend Cindy’s grandmother tried to feed us back in the day.

I do know what a BECCA Beach Tint is, though, because I’ve been wearing them for years. Dragonfruit ($25) is a relatively new one from BECCA. Came out in the fall, and it’s made its way into their permanent line.

A multi-purpose poppy pink lip and cheek product (say that five times fast!), part blush, part lip stain, pure convenience, and it’s water-resistant, too.

The only downside I can see: you might not want to wear any other blush.

I love this color! It’s brightening, goes great with warm and cool eye makeup shades, and it doesn’t even require a brush to apply. Lazy girl love , to infinity and beyond!!

Unsung Heroes: BECCA Eye Tint in Gilt

December 14th, 2012 by Karen 6 Comments

becca gilt eye tint
BECCA’s $24 Eye Tint in Gilt

Not “guilt,” like in how Tabs should feel after he exercises his claws on the cushions of my favorite chair, but “gilt,” as in BECCA’s $24 Eye Tint in Gilt, which gets extra Unsung Hero holiday party brownie points today for the tiny pieces of golden glitter swimming in its shimmery bronze base, and for its fabulously long-wearing, water-resistant cream eyeshadow formula.

I can apply a layer on my lids first thing in the morning, spend the day running errands for Santa (Tabs), head back home at night, and hang out by the tree after dinner with Gilt shimmering and shining under the tree’s blinking lights, even when I skip wearing a primer.

A Holiday Party Eye Makeup Look With Purple, Bronze and Gold

December 10th, 2012 by Karen 18 Comments

holiday makeup tutorial bronze purple

I received a few requests to see a tutorial after a look last week with pink cheeks and bronze, gold and purple eyes, so here it is!

I keep this one in my back pocket for date nights and parties because it’s a little bit dressy, but not full-on formal. Could be a nice look to wear to a work holiday party.

Last week I used a couple of limited edition products from BECCA that are out of circulation now (the Halcyon Days Palette and Cabrera Liner Duo), so this time around, to make things a little easier to duplicate, I replaced those pieces with similar colors from MAC’s permanent line (the other BECCA products here are still available).

The products

Swatches from the left: BECCA Eye Tint in Gilt, MAC Soba Eyeshadow, MAC Woodwinked Eyeshadow, MAC Prunella Eye Kohl, MAC Teddy Eye Kohl, BECCA Marcella Eyeshadow, BECCA Lychee Beach Tint, Becca Damselfly Blush, BECCA Flowerchild Blush, MAC Sublime Culture Cremestick Liner and Illamasqua Intimacy Lipgloss
  • A shimmery golden bronze cream shadow like BECCA Eye Tint in Gilt
  • A satiny golden brown eyeshadow like MAC Soba
  • A shimmery, warm peachy gold like MAC Woodwinked
  • A dark plum liner like MAC Prunella
  • A reddish golden bronze liner like MAC Teddy and https://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/mac-makeup/mac-unsung-hero-powersurge-eye-kohl/MAC Powersurge layered together
  • A shimmery golden purple eyeshadow like BECCA Marcella (from the Balearic Love Palette)
  • A pink cream blush like BECCA Lychee Beach Tint
  • A peach and pink powder blush like BECCA Damselfly and Flowerchild
  • A pinky nude lip liner like MAC Sublime Culture
  • A pinky nude gloss like Illamasqua Intimacy

Step by step

  1. Start by patting the shimmery bronze eyeshadow all over your lids.
  2. Next, sweep your satiny golden brown eyeshadow directly on top of the bronze eyeshadow you just used.
  3. Then, pat a warm peachy gold from your lashes down into the crease.
  4. Line your upper water line and upper lash line with your plum liner, and then smudge out the edges with your golden purple eyeshadow.
  5. Line your lower lash and water lines with your reddish golden bronze liner.
  6. Fill in your brows, and apply mascara.
  7. Now, blend the pink blush on your cheeks, and layer the peach and pink powder blushes on top.
  8. Lastly, line and fill in your lips with your pinky nude liner topped with a layer of nude gloss.
